Doom II Xbox LIVE Arcade 'still in the cards' photo

Reader Jim L. writes:

Know what happened to the game Doom II that was supposed to come out on Xbox LIVE Arcade late last year? Is it still coming to Xbox LIVE? Any new info on a release date perhaps?

We don't always have the answers, but we reached out to Bethesda -- who we correctly assumed would be publishing the port of id Software's classic first-person shooter -- to find out.

"It’s still in the cards," Pete Hines, VP of Public Relations and Marketing, told us today. "Just can’t give you a date just yet when it will be out."

So there you have it -- hell on Earth is still making its way to Xbox LIVE Arcade, Jim. We're just not exactly sure when.

You can get it on Steam right now for I am sure under a fiver. And I am sure it will run on your crappy laptop.

Yes, it's available elsewhere, but I enjoy playing Doom on 360, and I'll enjoy playing Doom II as well.

Now, if they would just release Quake on Xbox Live...

Now will someone please find out when KoF 2002 is coming out on XBLA? I thought it was supposed to be released near the beginning of the year.

I own at least two copies of every Doom game:

Doom - one physical PC copy, one Steam copy, one XBLA copy, and an original Xbox copy that came with my collector's edition of Doom 3

Doom 2 - one physical PC copy and one Steam copy

Final Doom - one physical PC copy and one Steam copy

Doom 3 - one physical PC copy, one Steam copy, and the above-mentioned Xbox copy

Doom 3 RoE - one physical PC copy and one Steam copy (PS, I loved this expansion)

And when Doom 2 comes to XBLA, you can bet I'll be buying it yet again. The split-screen Doom campaign is the fucking bomb.

I remember playing that when it came out and listening to Nirvana's Unplugged album. Oh those were good times.

Some of these XBLA titles take WAY too long to be released after they're announced. Also why didn't they start work on Doom 2 after the first one was released? That being said... day 1.

I'm one of those bizarre people who had never played Doom before I played it on XBLA. I loved it, and would love to play Doom II the same way.

I liked Doom 2 more than the first, not just because of the Double Barrel Shotgun. I liked how it was a complete 32 level game instead of being broken into 3 episodes.

Shit, forgot about that version. I have it as well, though only the one copy, obviously.

Disregard my previous claim, I guess :(

I recently figured out that if you put 4 fingers on the screen during gameplay it brings up the keyboeard allowing you to enter cheats.

Helllz yes, love me some Doom. As simple as it is today, it's still a lot of fun. And with achievements I'll actually have an excuse to play as my favorite marine again.

Even tho the chances are slim to none, I wish some of these old school 2D-3D shooters at least got the N64 upgrade treatment. Made me fall in love again with some of the classics.

I heard about this, but I never believed it was actually going to come out. It may be something to do with schlage access control systems, but that's just off the top of my head. I can't remember the source, but it sounded credible at the time.
