In a continual effort of bringing classic games to the Nintendo Wii, the Virtual Console squeezed out four old titles this week. Take a look at what you can waste your money on:

Donkey Kong Country (Super NES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)

The Legend of Kage (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)

New Adventure Island (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)

Streets of Rage (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)

What do you think about this week's releases? Worth a download? See anything more exciting than the voting channel? Check out the full descriptions after the jump.

Here's what you get:

Donkey Kong(TM) Country (Super NES(R), 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): Donkey Kong Country is an incredible island adventure, and the first game to feature Donkey Kong's sidekick, Diddy Kong(R).  Challenged by the crazed tribe of reptilian Kremlings, the Kongs face their cunning adversaries armed with lightning-quick moves, chest-pounding muscle and awesome aerial acrobatics. The duo also gets help from a host of friends and family, from Funky Kong(TM), Cranky Kong(TM) and Candy Kong(TM) to Rambi(TM) the rhino, Expresso(TM) the ostrich, Enguarde(TM) the swordfish, Squawks the parrot and Winky the frog. This game has more than 30 levels, plus dozens of hidden caves and secret rooms -- more than 100 areas in all.  Help the Kongs recover their stolen banana hoard!

The Legend of Kage (NES(R), 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): This classic ninja-action game first appeared in arcades in 1985 and became instantly popular. As the Iga ninja named "Kage," players embark on an action-packed quest as they move toward a magic castle where the Princess "Kiri" is held captive by "Yohshirou Yukikusa."  To stay alive, players move vertically and horizontally through forest and castle environments and execute massive jumps, all the while using throwing-star knives and a sword to take down hordes of enemies.

New Adventure Island (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): On peaceful Adventure Island, the islanders are celebrating the wedding of Master Higgins and Tina, the "Miss Island Queen."  Suddenly, the celebration is interrupted by the appearance of Baron Bronsky and his henchmen, who kidnap Tina and the  island children.  Master Higgins must set out to rescue the children and his  beloved Tina in this side-scrolling action game.  Throw hatchets and boomerangs, hop on skateboards and guide Master Higgins safely to the goal in each area.  New Adventure Island consists of seven exciting stages.  Each
stage is split into four areas, with a boss waiting at the end of the final area.  Defeat all the bosses and release the kidnapped children.  And waiting in the castle of the final stage -- the wicked Baron Bronsky.  Help Master Higgins defeat him and reclaim his bride.

Streets of Rage(TM) (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): The city was once a happy, peaceful place ... until one day, a powerful secret criminal organization took over.  This vicious syndicate soon had control of the government and even the police force.  The city has become a center of violence and crime where no one is safe.  Amid this turmoil, a group of
determined young police officers has sworn to clean up the city.  Among them are Adam Hunter, Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding.  They've decided to put their lives on the line and take back their city through their special hand-to-hand combat abilities.  They are willing to risk anything, even their lives, on the Streets of Rage.

I think I'll try grab DKC sometime soon. I would say this week but I'm a little short on Cash this week since I just picked up Lunar Knights and will getting a 360. It seems Nintendo knows exactly when I don't have cash to spare...

I never cared for Streets of Rage. I had it on the Game Gear and it was a lame version of Double Dragon.

I played New Adventure Island once along time ago. From what I remember it was along the lines of Bonk in terms of quality.

Donkey Kong Country was the shit for its time, but it's been so long... Has it really held up?

I'm not sure how well it has held up. I guess I should try and dig up my SNES and find my copy of DKC before putting money down on it again... That is if I can find it.

I might go for SoR. The 2nd and 3rd were awesome but I've never played the first. Plus, I've been stuck at the awkward number of 9 Wii points, which will inevitably end in me putting down another 10 bucks so I'll be able to spend the 1-3 odd dollars left in my account.

Yeah, half of my SNES carts have gone missing over the years. I guess that's a good reason for the VC.

I'm stuck with 400 wii points, I can't buy anything. I really don't want to spend more money for points, maybe Nintendo will release a crappy game and make it cheaper than normal games.

If I wasn't on a self imposed VC/Wii Ban, I'd get Legend of Kage. I still play that a few times a week on emulators. It was Crouching Tiger BEFORE there was Crouching Tiger.

However, I am on PERMA-ban so no VC for me.

Snaileb's avatar no workie.

I'm with you on the VC perma-ban JoeyBuckets. I almost caved in with Kid Icarus, but I eventually didn't. Thank god I had Hotel Dusk around, otherwise I would have been weak. I'm ok now though.

BTW, Hotel Dusk is a good book. Just finished it. Well worth 30 bones.

I'm skipping on the purchases this week.

I was never a DK fan, and DKC, I had to watch that game get played ALL the friggin' time at Wal-Mart when I was working there in HS.

As for the 900 points thing, I worked it out this way.

1 NES game puts you at 400, purchase another 1000 points, you got 1400. That's one Genesis/SNES and one TG-16.

I know the points system sucks, but if you're gonna whine about it too loudly, I've got 200 MS points you're welcome to have. I'm not dropping cash on gamer pics or themes to clear out my balance on a game. Anything that doesn't tie into Achievement points or the stock game itself is something I'm not interested in. Except Lumines or Guitar Hero 2.

I think of it this way on both systems. There will be SOMETHING I'll want at some point. Why bitch now when I can enjoy later?

I have an honest question here, do you guys can download this Wii VC games as demos or something, or do you actually have to buy them with no trial first?

@ aRZAEL It's not XBL, it's games you grew up with. Why do I need to demo Mario Kart? (Has a 360)

DKC isn't showing up for me either. I checked before 10MST, and there was nothing, 5 minutes later, the other three showed up. It's been two hours now, and still no DKC.

Bah, this ruins my plans. I was quite looking forward to sitting down with a cup of coffee and playing through the first world.

As much as I enjoyed these games in my youth. I somehow don't feel inclined to relive them. Certain games like SM64 and the original Zelda still hold up. sadly a majority of those games don't

but one day...within the next 5 years well have a messload of classic nintendo RPg's and great RPG's always stand the test of time

another week another reason to spend my monies on microsoft points instead.

Legend of Kage! holy shit. I forgot all about that game until today. Best ninja treetop jumping simulator EVER! thats a future impule buy right there.

DKC does NOT hold up IMO... But I'd be all about Streets of Rage and Legend of Kage.

Man, Link to the Past, Comix Zone, Kid Icarus, and now Legend of Kage? Damn you, why aren't these games 200 points?
I'm really looking forward to the Mega Man series, but I heard a horrible rumor that they aren't slated for Virtual Console. Does anyone know if that's true or not?

Just buy the megaman collection for cube, rather than spend about 38 bucks for about 8 megaman games should they eventually hit VC you could probably get the collection cheap not, if not cheaper used.

Donkey Kong Country's still fun, as is Streets of Rage; I can't speak for the others. As far as I'm concerned, pretty much everything except sports games, some FPS's and most realistic simulator games usually hold up perfectly.

Snaileb: Games I grew up with? you mean Space Invaders and Pong? (yeah I AM that old) Do you mean you dont get a demo? You also get classics (galaga, miss pacman) in XBL AND you do get to try them first. You are actually buying a game you havent played in 10 years with out knowing you still like it? (I was surprised with pacman which has grown boring, galaga however keeps being fun after all this years)

I dont think thats acceptable at any rate. I think you should be able to download it and demo it with a limited timer or something.

What are you talking about? I grew up with Space Invaders, but Pong is REALLY old. Anyways, yes I download off the VC and XBL to download games I grew up with, call me crazy, and Im happy with them because I know what they are, and I don't need a demo for them.
So whats the problem? Don't be sad panda bear, just play, and if you don't like it or find it unacceptable, then dont download it. It's that simple, because all this is optional, and Im thankful they gave us the option. Even if half of them are filled with crap, Im happy with the other half I own. You can't really make me regret doing it.
