Earlier today, we were sent a USA Today article about Rock Band (via Kombo) that contained an alarming snippet of info regarding Rock Band 2 for the Wii.

"Unfortunately, as with the first Rock Band," USA Today's Marc Saltzman wrote, "the Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 2 versions of Rock Band 2 do not offer any Internet connectivity for multiplayer gaming or downloadable music."

Before the Internet exploded with the anger of a million Wii owners, we went straight to the source. While MTV Games hasn't revealed information on the Wii (or PlayStation 2) version of the title, they assure us that the comment is "untrue," and that the Wii version of the title will "will definitely be fully featured."

This is the same line we heard last month during Rock Band 2 Xbox 360 media tours, where the company was tight lipped on the version being made available for Nintendo's console this holiday. For their sake, we hope it's true -- Activision Blizzard has already confirmed (and shown) a full featured version of their music title, Guitar Hero: World Tour, complete with functioning music sharing, online play, and (potential) downloadable content.

We'll keep you updated with more as soon as MTV Games and Harmonix reveal some official details.

Oh thank God. For a moment I was panicking, in between playing songs on Rock Band on my 360. Crisis averted.

They will just look lazy if they don't with what GH is doing on the Wii.

Rock Band 2 would get crushed if they offered a gimped version when GH:WT offers the whole thing. I would have completely passed on RB2 if it was gimped like the first one. Hell, even GH3 has Internet connectivity on the Wii, and that came out how many months before RB. So there was no excuse for such a gimped Wii version.

But, you're right. Harmonix has been saying for a while that the Wii version isn't going to be gimped. I wonder if the USA Today writer didn't bother doing any investigation and just assumed that RB2 would be the same kind of deal as RB.

Now, the big decision for me is ... do I buy GH:WT for the Wii or PS/3 when I already have the Wii guitar from GH3? Hmmm.... (And, no, graphics don't mean shit for a rhythm game as far as I'm concerned.)

The guitarist in that pic looks like me without facial hair.

Great...if only you could store more than a couple of song packs on the Wii to begin with.

@ John B

Graphics might not mean shit, but online play and being able to fit as many songs as you want into a game should matter.

@Necros:

...which is exactly why I appreciate the fact that the Wii version is supposed to be fully featured, like the XB360 and PS3. So, what's your point?

One would think that with both of these big time playas aiming for DLC on the Wii that Nintendo is developing a storage solution to enlarge the fridge (I know Reggie said it in that Spanish interview, but it HAS to be coming soon than later).
