Home #Gametap

In honor of Halloween, GameTap has pulled together a pretty solid list of games that feature Mr. Death himself, the Grim Reaper.

The list includes obvious nods to Death Jr. and Grim Fandango, both stellar games that feature a reaper character. They even manage to throw in retro entries like Paperboy and Gauntlet.

Major nerd props (and gamer cred) to GameTap staff for the inclusion of both Romancing SaGa and games from the Shin Megami Tensei series. Anyone who's played Persona 3 will tell you that it's time to haul ass when you hear Death's chains dragging on the ground in the distance. You have to be pretty damned toug (see above video) to take him on.

Good job, GameTap. Was there any that they missed? Was the addition of Guitar Hero a stretch?

My untold amount of hours with Persona 3 have taught me one thing.

Run the fuck away from Death

Nice find. This might actually persuade me to join gametap. With the knowledge that some employees might actually play games.

I have never had a problem with death in persona 3.
I don't stay to long on one floor. Every time I get a cursed card during shuffle time, I happen to be near by the stairs

Does curse cards appear more often the higher you go up Tartarus?

Grim Fandango was one of the greatest games of it's time. Never had I seen something so funny and artistically intimate in all my life.

i really am hungry for each new mix of the background music as i ascend up tartarus. sometimes i could swear the music slightly changes as i progress the social links too. the game was great enough to change the victory one-liners as each character has their life-changing realization, so i have reason enough to be paranoid about that. it's a good paranoid.

They forgot that the Grim Reaper was in Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Does Gametap make any upgrades at all, or is it on the same level as Wii virtual console. If I am simply paying for a legal emulator, then I must say no.

mteerie, the soundtrack is definitely worth buying. I love how it changes constantly.

bohb: For emulated games, no. They're perfect the way they are. Although, a lot of our arcade and Neo-Geo titles feature online play. So, going with us for the entire Fatal Fury series (including Garou) with online play sure beats paying $9 bucks for a gimped version with none.

There's also a huge PC, DOS and ... Oh, you can see for yourself :)

Yes, the grim reaper was in Conker's Bad Fur Day. He hated squirrels, but he hated the undead even more, which is why he gives you a shotgun in the zombie horror section of the game. :3

All I can think about when I read the title was Blue Oyster Cult.

Then cowbell.

Then Will Ferrel.

Then Robert Goulet.

Then the death of Robert Goulet.

Umm... wow. I'd never think a Final Fantasy game would be left off of any list... damn.
