Don't expect a Final Fantasy VII remake anytime soon photo

Final Fantasy character designer Tetsuya Nomura has told fans not to look forward to a Final Fantasy VII remake any time in the near future, but stated instead that main character Cloud Strife has plenty of cameos and whoring left in him.

"Fans are looking forward to an oft-rumored remake of FFVII, but I don't believe this will happen for the time being," admits Nomura. "However, it's possible that he will appear in other titles as a guest character."

His comments came as part of Famitsu's serial look at popular videogame characters, which this week focuses on the spiky-haired star of Final Fantasy VII. If you want more of Cloud, then it seems you won't get him in an HD remake of his very own game. Some of you will be disappointed by this, some of you relieved.

Which are you? Do you want a remake of VII, or do you believe the original has stood the test of time long enough to be left alone as a classic?

Nomura: No on Final Fantasy VII Remake, yes on Cloud cameos [Andria Sang]

I only started playing FF7 for the fist time last year. It's pretty decent though a remake would be nice.

But if they were to remake FF7, I'd like to see the other FFs being remade too >_>

What, since when is Square not interesting in making vast sums of money and milking the FFVII cash cow?

Like Crimsondramon, I only started playing the original semi-recently, and while I think the game is great on its own, a graphical update (while at the same time changing very little else) might attract a newer audience. Another spin-off, however, just over-saturates what started off as a great story in and of itself, and now veers dangerously close to ending up ridiculous.

well I for one am not looking forward to a VII remake, although it seems kinda inevitable. They're probably saving it for rougher times since they know millions of people (myself included, duh) will buy it.

I'm torn on the remake idea. Whilst part of me would like to see it happen, I'm not so fond of the canon Square-enix have seen fit to add to the universe since the games initial release. For example, I played Crisis core not giving two shits about Genesis, yet they made him integral to Sephiroth's fall from grace. It soured the experience for me a little.

they have plans to make one, theyre just waiting until a big enough shit hits the fan, then theyll push the money button that is FF7 remake.

I just want a tasteful update to the game, like making the game's graphics and sound quality match Final Fantasy VIII's along with some analog control, that's all I really want for VII. Voice acting and/or making it look and sound like Final Fantasy X would be kind of nice, but I could do without.

Now if only they would get Matrix to tackle Final Fantasy V after all this time, that was a fun game.

FFVI remake first. Remake FFV and the true masterpiece first, then worry about FFVII. They've already remade Final Fantasy through Final Fantasy IV enough already, FFV and FFVI deserve a turn now.

Not that they have to go in order, but they've fucked with FFVII so much they need a good bit of time to connect the all the quirks Before Crisis and Crisis Core added to the story. Not to mention connect FFVII to Advent Children a bit better.

Well, at least we now know the big 2010 announcement isn't a FFVII remake.

What Spykron said. All they have to do is say "we are making a remake", and Square Enix stock will rise 100%. They're just saving that shit: hell, it might even be partially done.

A remake would be good - but it isn't simple to make one. Final Fantasy VII is a OLD game. It was great for its time, but compared to more recent final fantasy games, and more recent RPGs, it just..... falls flat. Nostalgia is what supports FFVII in this day and age - if it was released today, even with the enhanced graphics, it would only be regarded as decent.

In order to make it a game worth buying, they'd have to invest quite a bit into it. It's not as easy or risk free as it sounds. If they don't get it JUUUUUUST right, it can tarnish the company and the FF series. If they leave it as it is, newer gamers who have never played FFVII won't be interested in it. If they change it too much it will be decried from the rooftops by the old fans.

omfg....what you fucking talk about FFVII? yes it was the first title in 3D...but a little bit overrated too.It is a good game. FFVIII was balantallally better. I would like to see a remake of VI or older titles. Every year the same shit, crying Sephirotten mind-raped ppl who want a FFVII remake. There is even no need to for a Chrono Trigger remake, because it is good..still awesome in its style and art. A FFVII remake would crash the PS1 original...and then the real shitstorm will begin...

Same as Magnalon, shinryu108 and Spykron. FF7 Remake is not about if, but about when, basically (and i've stated ths before) this will be S-E "get out of jail(bankruptcy) free" card which is very ironic considering that's how the FF franchise was born: as the swan song of Square back at the 80s.

They know the world and their dog want it, the tech demo they made was just an audience test to gauge interest in it and they saw it's damn viable but they won't do it unless they REALLY need it. I thought that perhaps if FF13 with all the linearity criticism failed hard it might happen but they still managed to sell 2 million copies before sales plummeted, so i guess well have to wait a bit more.

Youd think with as much traffic as video games need these days, eastern developers in particular, square-enix in particular, you think; youd think that they would make something that sells beyond opening week. Im excited for FF13, but im not encouraged for sales, even in japan where it should sell 2 fold more than in the U.S.

I think Square should wait for PlayStation 4 to do a FF7 remake. Make it a launch title, since RPGs are usually scarce in the first year of a console's life. A remake of 7 would be virtually guaranteed to move units.

by the time square does get around to doing this remake, not only will the original team that worked VII be entirely gone, but there will be so many pointless side stories to incorporate into the plot that the game will probably be less good than the original. god help us if they try and fix the "unfinished" aeris story now. basically the longer it takes, the lower the quality and the lower the fan enthusiasm.

they should have made it a PS3 launch title. not only would i now own a PS3, but it might have ended up being a decent game too.

The only reason why ppl are fueling the remake fire is because of the test footage for the PS3. Quite frankly Sony are teasing bitches who never put out ... so to speak.

As for personal opinion, it makes great finacial sense to remake the game all that would need promoting is the release date. Would it be as successful most likely because there are a generation of kids alive today that werent when it 1st cameout. Sony just needs to put its foot down on either side of the fence rather than hanging there teasing those poor expectant fans.

It was great, but it really needs to be touched up and remade. My wife is a solid gamer and loves the FF series, but she just can't get into FFVII. She's by no means a graphics whore. She's played FF I on NES, but let's admit it... FFVII looks like shit and is hard to maneuver even when you flip on the arrows to show you where entrances/exits are.

The pacing at the beginning is dreadfully slow as well. Back when it came out it was brilliant looked great. We didn't care because it was magnificent in its day. I played through it a ton of times, but honestly, it just doesn't hold up well. Put this on a 50" TV and it's a disaster.

I guess if she's ever gonna play it she'll have to do it on PSP where these things are toned down. We've seriously been waiting for a remake for a while and they've hinted at it and then hinted away from it. *shrug*

I really do appreciate the fact that Square Enix won't do any remake on FFVII. I'm not one of those people who started with the game to begin with Final Fantasy and I don't think it's the best part of the series ever but for me it's just unnecessary. For Square Enix is making another remake just an excuse for making older stuff more casual. I don't have problems with pixels and polygons anyway :D

Looking back, I can't really praise the series for much (outside of a handful of creative pieces of music) but I was very into the games growing up, and I would snap up this one in a heartbeat, just for the sake of nostalgia. I know many older fellows that feel the same way.

For one, they shouldn't do anything with Cloud and gang unless it's a remake. Not just because the sequels managed to screw up the continuity worse than George Lucas, but also because Square Enix can't be trusted to do new things anymore.

Two, yes. Final Fantasy VII could use an update. Either that, or just rename it LEGO Final Fantasy. The NES & SNES Final Fantasy games aged much better than 7, simply because nothing looks worse than early 3D. (See "Money For Nothing" Music Video.)

FF7 is the ONLY FF that needs a remake.

1-6 still look great because sprites hold up well.
8-13 look great because the textures on the 3D models are detailed enough.

7 was the awkward phase of 3D where everything was made up of 4 polygons and single-color textures. If not for the pre-rendered backgrounds and classic JRPG gameplay, it would be almost unplayable today.

I, personally, don't want to see a remake. It may destroy what the initial vision of the game was, thus making newer generations hate on it. I do think Square Enix should produce one, though, as it's just smart marketing/business. Everyone wants it, so it will sell like crazy.

It doesn't need to be remade! Are they seriously going to go through the entire fucking series and remake all the games? What is so wrong about the original that warrants a remake?

The more they keep messing with 7, the more it's legacy it's lessened because of all the rehash/sequel/prequels. Leave it alone.
