Don't be pissed, here comes Myst (to the PSP next week) photo

Myst. My sole memory of this game places me in my grandparents' house when I was about six years old. I didn't understand it then, and I don't understand it now. Perhaps now is the time to finally get to grips with this isolating puzzle game, as it's coming to the PSP via the PlayStation Network on July 16.

This downloadable version of Myst will contain the complete original game, and also adds in the New Rime Age,  a previously unreleased addition to the title. No word on a price yet, but one hopes it'll be quite a bargain price. I definitely wouldn't mind having this little brain-scrambler hiding in my PSP.

PSN could stand to have some more old school puzzlers and PC adventure games. That'd really help give it an edge, and it's exactly the kind of thing the PlayStation Network needs in order to help push the PSPgo as a worthy digital platform.

I think the new content is from the DS version of the remake.

Rime should have been on the iphone port. Aggravated that it isn't. Feel like I'm missing out on the premier portable version now.

Bustin' out some rhymes are ya Jim?

Word!

I've pretty much had it with the whole Myst thing. I've tried to embrace it many times but never really could. I'm more into the other kind of adventures like Discworld, Monkey Island, Syberia and Broken Sword. They often don't make any sense either but at least that's bloody entertaining! This on the other hand doesn't entertain me at all.

I do think it's good for the PSN store though.

6 years old?? Ugh... now I feel really old! I think I was close to 30ish when the game released. Great game! (the re-release won't take me back to my childhood like it will for some people... but then again, what game will? I just don't see the original Pong in black and white making a huge comeback!)

I'll still likely buy the game though! :)

Yeah, I can definetly go for some Myst. The more gets added to the Playstation Store the better as my UMD drive doesn't work.

You know what they should release though? The 7th Guest.

Part of me sees this a good news, because it could be additional revenue for Cyan Worlds to start making new games again. But it's also disheartening, because both the DS and PSP ports of the game are pretty terrible, and they turned off a lot of new players because of how badly powered they were.

The bonus Rime age serves as an excellent bridge from Myst to Riven. The problem is that Rime was originally built to be played in the realtime 3D remake of Myst, "realMYST", and these ports include the additional age by using stills taken of Rime. This results in a pretty shocking shift in art style and quality, since it's something thrown together by Hoplite instead of Cyan.

If you really want to play Myst, it shouldn't be terribly hard to find one of the various releases of the original game for PC, or you could also play the beautiful 3D remake "realMYST" on GameTap. If you've got an iPhone, that's probably your best option, since it's currently the highest quality assets that have been provided for the original game, and at $6 for a pretty large adventure game, it's hard to pass up.

I must admit, I was fascinated by this game back in the day. I think the New Age graphics are still appealing on some level. If I ever play it again, though, I'll try to get that "Real Myst" game they made a while back.

JUNE? 16? I think you left out the part where sony invented a time machine.

On a serious note though, i will have to see the price before i consider, anything over $10 is an absolute no-no.

God, this sure brings a shitload of good memories.
Why they don't make a next gen Myst?
Someone would play, right...?

Haven't played Myst in over a decade, it made no sense to me when I was a kid. Maybe I'll try it again.
But I think they need to port over Phantasmagoria. That game is fuckin' awesome.
