The above is what greeted one unfortunate gamer on Christmas morn after he asked his grandfather for Modern Warfare 2. Somehow, he did not specify that it was a videogame for one of the major gaming systems, and instead received the Modern Warfare Collector's Set.
As you may have gathered, the Collector's Set is not a special Call of Duty compilation that you've never heard of. It is instead one of those cheap DVDs you see in supermarket bins containing documentaries and feature presentations typically enjoyed by wankers. Not quite Modern Warfare 2. Except for the "wankers" part.
So, don't ask out-of-touch old people for videogames or, if you must do, please make sure to specify it's a game, and at least tell them the system it's for.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It had the potential to be genuine video game cover art. That marine guy looks like he saw some broccoli.
Tht's what you get for wanting to play Modern Warfare 2.
you will be old too one day. WW2 is what "OLD" people associate "Medal of Honor", "Call of Duty" with. Maybe watch some History channel programs to learn a bit about what happened in the past. You can not blame the old man for trying, instead you use that moronic headline.
Old people suck.
That said it is true. (Hopefull) we will all be old one day. :(
Who said he was forcing him to do anything? I didn't see a gun mentioned in the story. Where did it say he was a tween? Where did it say he was ungrateful? Jesus Christ man have a *little* faith in people. Just a teeny tiny bit. Just enough to not make assumptions based off of absolutely nothing.
Also, I'm gonna say that headline really is douchey and stop talking in this thread.
Right on. And this is a dumb story. It's on par with me swearing about my roommate not putting my games away this morning. Trivial and irrelevant.
This may be the most ridiculous comment I've ever read on Destructoid.
Right, I'm going to assume that the grandfather wasn't pestered into buying a game he would probably know nothing about. I'm not sure where the gun reference came from, but it's entirely irrelevant; forcing =/= physical voilence. I didn't think I actually needed to explain that...
More to the point, if you're not old enough to buy your own copy of MW2, you have no business owning a copy.
"Life is long when you live it but oh so short when you look back." - Giacomo (Baten Kaitos)
I still imagine him grumbling as he ordered the thing and wondering what the hell kind of movie costs $50.
That's much better, the new headline makes me smile. :)
This gets my seal of approval.
you are a funny guy sometimes. Plus there might be a heart somewhere in there :)
It was actually a DVD the whole time. Damn you, grandpa.
Coincidentally, I saw a "World at War" collection at a retail store, and it was a collection of (obviously) WWII.
Hot damn. You're a whole bucket full of cynicism now aren't you? Just making all these assumptions without basis.
And Jim: Love the headline.
"Old people suck."
How insightful. Seriously, who actually says things like this?
Me. I have a terrible phobia of age and the aged. I know it's arrogant and blah, blah, blah, but it's the truth. They just...kinda gross me out.
I'm 28, married, have a full time job and a daughter on the way. When my parents asked me if there were any games I wanted for Christmas, this was one of them. Just because a person is old enough to buy something on his own doesn't mean he can't still receive it as a gift from a loved one.
That said, anyone who actually whines about a gift doesn't deserve said gift (no idea if this kid was a whiner or just trying to be funny).
Oh, and I'd gladly trade in all my gifts to bring either of my grandpas back to life.
Even as zombies.
