Don't ask your hot, sexy grandfather for Modern Warfare 2 photo

The above is what greeted one unfortunate gamer on Christmas morn after he asked his grandfather for Modern Warfare 2. Somehow, he did not specify that it was a videogame for one of the major gaming systems, and instead received the Modern Warfare Collector's Set

As you may have gathered, the Collector's Set is not a special Call of Duty compilation that you've never heard of. It is instead one of those cheap DVDs you see in supermarket bins containing documentaries and feature presentations typically enjoyed by wankers. Not quite Modern Warfare 2. Except for the "wankers" part.

So, don't ask out-of-touch old people for videogames or, if you must do, please make sure to specify it's a game, and at least tell them the system it's for.

A pity.

It had the potential to be genuine video game cover art. That marine guy looks like he saw some broccoli.

Sterling,

you will be old too one day. WW2 is what "OLD" people associate "Medal of Honor", "Call of Duty" with. Maybe watch some History channel programs to learn a bit about what happened in the past. You can not blame the old man for trying, instead you use that moronic headline.

I blame whoever produced the DVD, there was no way it was named as such mistakenly. I bet a lot of disappointed gamers got this under the tree this year.

I think it's still a great gift regardless, and that spoiled little tween shouldn't force his grandfather to buy him a game.

This happens any time there's a big budget release of a movie or game. Gas stations and Wal-Mart especially release these in an attempt to pull in their uninformed shoppers and ruin Christmas/Birthdays. What is Grandpa/Grandma going to buy? The sixty dollar game in a green box that's all the way in the back and wait in a massive fucking line to get it? Or are they going to get the ten dollar special sitting right at the front in the dump bin? It's bullshit, but it clearly works.

Who said he was forcing him to do anything? I didn't see a gun mentioned in the story. Where did it say he was a tween? Where did it say he was ungrateful? Jesus Christ man have a *little* faith in people. Just a teeny tiny bit. Just enough to not make assumptions based off of absolutely nothing.

Also, I'm gonna say that headline really is douchey and stop talking in this thread.

Right, I'm going to assume that the grandfather wasn't pestered into buying a game he would probably know nothing about. I'm not sure where the gun reference came from, but it's entirely irrelevant; forcing =/= physical voilence. I didn't think I actually needed to explain that...

More to the point, if you're not old enough to buy your own copy of MW2, you have no business owning a copy.

My Grandfather passed away this year... He was a great Man. Some day this dudes Grandpa is going to die and I hope that he feels like shit for bitching about a GIFT that his Grandpa bought him. In the end it's a gift and he might as well have not received anything at all. I wish that my Grandpa would have had a longer life, he was married for over 50 years though and built a wonderful family (some of which fell apart- not his fault)... On g4tv.com the poll today is "What did your Grandfather get you for Christmas?" some of the answers were very rude. Not all grandparents are completely ignorant and senial, most of them try very hard. Please love your Grandparents while they're on this earth with you... and for the love of God respect them! They deserve more respect than any of us can probably comprehend...

I remember one year I asked my dad for a DVD of the movie 'Reign of Fire'. Instead he bought me the game for the PS2 via Amazon. I felt kind of bad about that one because the game cost $50 and the movie was only $15. And of course my Dad isn't the kind of guy who lets you return stuff he purchased online. If I told him about the mistake I'm pretty sure that he would have just bought the movie too to give me later and felt embarassed. So I had to pretend to love it and work through my Mom to get the money back to him covertly.

I still imagine him grumbling as he ordered the thing and wondering what the hell kind of movie costs $50.

I am honestly impressed. No, it's not what he means, but for the grandfather to have found this particular set shows quite a lot of work on his part, I'd think. Those DVD sets aren't all the same everywhere by any means. Too bad he didn't get the game, though.

What a bunch of crybaby pussies we have on Dtoid. What's with everyone being so quick to assume that the kid is a greedy ingrate? Why isn't it just as easy to assume the grandfather asked the kid what he wanted for Christmas and the kid merely told him the truth? For all we know, the kid feigned delight for his grandfather's benefit and wasn't a dick about it at all. Regardless of all that, I don't get how some of you act like how what happened wasn't funny. Bunch o' pansies.

I'm 28, married, have a full time job and a daughter on the way. When my parents asked me if there were any games I wanted for Christmas, this was one of them. Just because a person is old enough to buy something on his own doesn't mean he can't still receive it as a gift from a loved one.

That said, anyone who actually whines about a gift doesn't deserve said gift (no idea if this kid was a whiner or just trying to be funny).

Oh, and I'd gladly trade in all my gifts to bring either of my grandpas back to life.

Even as zombies.
