Our very own Jordan Devore linked to this thread on NeoGAF last night, which is full to the brim with commentary about Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and the recently released reviews. Now, we had Chad Concelmo review the game because he knows the series very well and knocked it out of the park. Also -- Uncharted fans are a special breed of horrific.
I knew from past occurrences that they could be nuts, but the fervor surrounding Uncharted 3's reviews -- a game none of these people have played -- is terrifying. For example, here are a few comments concerning Eurogamer's 8/10 review:
Wow, EG. How disappointing. When EDGE can give it a 9, how the hell did you think it was an 8? They are doing this to stand out.
Amazing what Eurogamer's 8 did to drag down the overall metascore.
Eurogamer is angry because this master game competes with one of the few AAA made by domestic failing UK game industry (Batman AC).
Conjecture, accusations and armchair psychology? Oh, those are mere Hors d'oeuvres! Here are some more reactions to Eurogamer and others that one would be tempted to laugh at if they weren't so scary.

people who dislike the Uncharted series have poor taste. It's a mark against their character.
I don't put much stock in review scores, but generally the highest confidence measure I've found of a game's greatness is when IGN gives it a perfect 10. Obviously this leaves out tons of good games that I would consider 10s, but the false positive rate is basically 0. If IGN gives a game a perfect 10, it's basically a masterpiece.
IGN giving perfect marks for EVERY SINGLE COMPONENT of the game though...that just brings a tear to my eye.
I really hope we see a few more 10 out of 10s. I really want to see it on top this year on metacritic.
In the end, the sites that actually matter have not let us down.

if Uncharted 3 is objectively better than Uncharted 2, yet gets lower scores, then we have a situation on our hands..
If your reviews constantly differ from rest of the community, then you are simply not fit for the job.
That's just a selection of the scary insanity demonstrated. These and way more were collected by this guy right here. There's even one where somebody seems to be celebrating that Destructoid's review was written by Chad (unless there's another "fat fuck" reviewer out there). I am fairly certain the guy isn't a Destructoid fan -- so why does he care what our review says?
Review controversies are nothing new. We've had them for Gears of War 3 and Batman: Arkham City in just this quarter of the year. Even so, there's an alarming number of people who seem emotionally invested in what sites they don't even read are giving a game they've not even played. I can't quite work out how Uncharted -- a series that's never struck me as anything truly exceptional -- has such a grasp over the emotional wellbeing of gamers. Why have all these people latched onto the series and now see it as some defining part of their identity? Even Sonic fans are more sensible than this.
We get this every time a new Uncharted game comes out and I just don't get it. I don't think I can imagine being so bereft of anything worth living for that I am reduced to incessantly refreshing a Metacritic page and feeling abject relief a game I think I am going to like is getting nothing but perfect tens.

Seriously though, it was the text from a 4/10 game with an 8/10 score stuck on the end. i found their whole review to be almost hunting for negativity and generally insincere.

I've played the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer for about a month now,and I'd give that a score of 9.5/10 based on fun factor,game play,and content. I take.5 off for some minor glitches in the Airfield map.
While I respect the mostly glowing reviews,Unlike the idiots on neogaf, I'll reserve all judgement of the SP until I actually play it ;D
At least it's not coming from the dev side like the whole gears fiasco.
Also, i'm pretty sure a good few Gears fans flipped their shit at that review just as uncharted fans are at this one - but still, 8 is a GOOD FUCKING SCORE!

I've seen crazier comments on many things gaming to be honest. Nothing really shocks me anymore with these guys. I also think because it's a Sony exclusive it makes things more intense, a bit like Gears.

This is not a news post. Dtoid's a blog, not CNN and we don't just post news items all the time. This was more a talking point than news.
How low in life do you have to get to identify yourself to such a degree with the score of a game ? Some comments seem like as if the reviewer called the commenter's mother out a bitch or something. Why is everyone so personal about a multimillion Franchise ?
Get a life, and while at it, stop commenting when you have nothing constructive or funny to say.
Maybe comments should'nt be allowed for 24hrs after the review got released. Maybe that would chill some people ot a bit and make them actually think about what they are writing.

I won't lie, I don't like your review style, I think you're far too negative about details, some of your criticisms are inconsistent across games, and there have been instances where I've thought that maybe you aren't all that good at playing some types of games(Pinkie-gate comes to mind), but I don't argue with your opinions. I simply look for other reviewers that I feel are closer to where I'm at as a gamer. Reviews should contain both subjective and objective elements; if a person doesn't agree with either portion within a reviewer's work, then they should move on.
This obsession with a person's favorite videogame "winning" on metacritic might be even dumber than console fanboyism in general.

So I think he pretty much deserves some break down of his argument rather than applause from the likes of Jaffe. HOWEVER, this degree of backlash is obviously stupid.
I don't think it was a good review. I don't care about the game or the way it's presented, but he said the game was excellent with gameplay, graphics, and story. For almost all of us, that is enough. He went in to fight the "blockbuster" experience and that was the focus.
I'm just saying the review wasn't good. People responded however over the score which is asinine. Maybe if he had done a better job clarifying the issues he had, the backlash might not have been as harsh. People seem to be defending the review because he has the right to review it this way. They don't seem to be agreeing one way or the other on the content within it.

It's ok to point out when a review doesn't seem quite right for whatever reason. It's obviously not ok to be a psychotic dick about it, but something does seem a bit odd about this EG review.
This is seriously sad, I checked Gamefaqs to see if they were just as bad and surprisingly nope. They've been civil about the score, most at least. That is...surreal.
I know it might boggle your mind at times, Jim... but I don't see how this level of mindless outrage surprises you anymore. And it is mindless and sad, and that's coming from someone who really likes the Uncharted series.
