well, it wasn't fun. it was boring, shooting sucked, graphics dated, fetch quests? are you kidding me? And it wasn't even funny, just... sad.
I have a sense of humor, a pretty big one actually, but no, Duke is not fun, I'm really sick and tired of people saying that they just played it for laughs and that they know it doesn't compare to modern shooters. Duke's gun game is extremely clunky in the console versions(have yet to try pc), this is especially noticeable in the turrent sequences, then you get also get the clunky platforming sequences, the boring car sequences, and once you get down to actually fighting somebody with a gun, it's completely boring and uninspired. And yes, only two guns IS a big deal, it's hard to experiment in forever because of that limit, in 3D it was so much fun(and still is) going around and having at your disposal an arsenal of weapons. You know why forever limited the weapon count to two weapons, because more than half the time your only fighting two enemies at a time, thus the game would've been waayyyy to easy. All these reasons are why forever is not fun, not fun at all, also I did find Duke funny, but him alone does not equal a fun game.
DNF didn't limit you to two weapons because it would make the game too easy. When people first complained about the two-weapon limit, George Broussard (co-father of Duke, and the guy primarily held responsible for DNF's decade of development hell) defended it by saying:
1) As the D-pad was being used for other features, he couldn't see how to implement convenient switching between a larger number of weapons when using a console controller.
2) The two-weapon limit had become an accepted feature of modern FPS design. (Broussard's track record with DNF was that he became a very "me-too" developer, so this wasn't entirely surprising to hear. Since other popular games were using a two-weapon limit, he wanted to use it too. He described the two-weapon limit as an improvement in the genre, effectively casting the old all-access arsenal as a relic of the past.)
The reasons behind the two-weapon limit explain a lot of the flaws in DNF's design. The game was spearheaded by a man who no longer innovated, but rather started blindly copying what others were doing, adding mechanics piecemeal because someone else had used them. If 3DRealms had been able to continue for a few more years, I wouldn't have been surprised to hear that DNF gained a cover system, a horde mode, and killstreak rewards.
Power Armor is for pussies :)
