This fansite of David Tennant -- the latest in a long string of literal and metaphorical incarnations of Doctor Who -- has word that a game based on the Who license will be coming to " PC, PS2, DS and Mobile". Here's the blurb straight from the horse's ... website:
Top Trumps have revealed their plans for a Doctor Who video game to be released in time for Christmas 2007.It is thought it will be available on PC, PS2, DS and Mobile. An advert for the game appears in the new Doctor Who Top Trumps card pack. We will have more details as we get them. You can buy the new Doctor Who Top Trumps in our shop here.
With the long-awaited success of the Doctor here in the States, it's no surprise that a video game would be churned out based on the IP, but by that same logic, the odds of it being worthwhile are incredibly low. It's been pointed out time and time again that games based on any IP other than those created specifically for games will ultimately suck, and in a game based on a television series that relies almost entirely on the quirky personalities of its characters and ironically outdated special effects, the suck is almost assured.
No word on exactly where this title is going to be released, but now that the Doctor is a phenomenon on this side of The Pond as well, we're going to assume it will be hitting US shores, as well as those of Jolly Ole' England.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
How dare you Sir, there are places in this country where you can be publically flogged for even thinking such a thing. No, Tennant is cool.
This idea of turning Dr Who into a game seems so 80's, I feel like I should be hearing this game announcement on Tommorows World or something, Spectrums, BBC's, Acorns and Atari's provided cutting edge graphics, and bedroom programmers ruled... God I'm glad I never really lived in those times.
As long as it won't star the S4 companion... Give us some Billy Piper virtual goodness!
Don't you mean season 3? I haven't gotten that far yet but I don't think rose made it to season 3.
That is all.
Oh well the British person that lives inside of me just got all happy, and the cranky pessimistic American in me came up with a million different reason this game won't work and this game will just be the aborted fetus of a game.
Time will tell...
DJ Danger Mouse is black.
Count Duckula would also like to know where his game is. Oh wait, he got not one but two. Suck it Dangermouse.
oh... but yeah I'll take rose any day. :P
Yeah, I'm that old.
