So, Ninja Theory is making a new Devil May Cry, people are bitching, and all I have to say is ... what's the problem, again? I've just watched this pretty damn epic trailer for the upcoming game and it looks pretty freakin' fantastic to me.
It's not like Devil May Cry has ever been a sacred series. It's an absurd franchise about a ludicrous man with a big sword and guns, and that's it! It's not hallowed ground. It's not like the game has finely crafted lore and characters with deep backstories to ruin.
And you know what? I'll go so far as to say I like Dante's new look. It's a little emo for sure, but he still appears to have the same over-the-top personality. Just seems to me that it's another case of gamers being terrified of change. I'm all for games not-innovating when they don't need to, but a nice refresh can go a long way, and if any series needed refreshing, it's this one.
At the end of the day, Ninja Theory is a developer one can trust, and you can all just quit whining about it.

This trailer is pretentious and the art direction is terrible. There's not a whole lot of hope here if you're looking to dissuade people from talking smack about the game.
What if they pull a twist on us and it turns out that Dante is actually a crazy person with delusions of grandeur? And he's imagining slaying demons, when he's really just slaying people?
Now THEN you'd be mad, heheheh.

Devil may cry has been one of my favorite games for ages!! Don't try and write this off as something no one cares about!!
I'm not bitching about the game myself, I think it looks awesome! I'm a bit bitter about not having white hair on my dante as it's been one of the most defining characteristics of the character and franchise though, but seriously, this does look good.
But don't write Devil may cry off like that! To some of us, that IS hallowed ground!!
Granted, all we have is a trailer, so maybe the game will still work. But Dante isn't a scrawny ass kid, he's a man that makes crappy one-liners.
And as for Jim (who I usually agree with), this would be like taking Deadly Premonition and replacing Agent York with Marcus from Gears of War or Chris Redfield from RE5. Not quite as easy to shrug off when it's YOUR sacred cow, is it? It's stupid pandering to a "western crowd" ad is downright patronizing.
Older Dante is like an older smart(ass) guy, but he was pretty much more mature, this dante reminds me of an 1970s punk rocker with a idgaf attitude Which is cool. As for the hair maybe once he turns demon its white. Maybe he hasnt unlocked his full demon powers yet.
On the other hand, the gameplay of that video was pretty sweet. I wouldn't have a problem with this game if wasn't Devil May Cry and the main character was named something else.
Yes, IT IS about Ninja Theory making it. See, Capcom has perfected DMC's gameplay with 3 great games in 2 generations (I'm not considering DMC2, that's crap) and now leave it in the hands of Heavenly's Sword developers? A smashing button, unbalanced and NOT FUN TO PLAY game? It's not even called "DMC5", like it's not "official".
Yes, this is pretty much how I feel about Devil May Cry. Almost everything about this series is stupid and doesn't make any sense.

Maybe he is the old Dante and its not a reboot its simply a Prequel to the Prequel (DMC3)
