DLC will bridge the gap between Mass Effect 2 and ME3 photo

Speaking with VideoGamer, BioWare's Casey Hudson described what we can expect from the next batch of Mass Effect 2 downloadable content: a warm-up of sorts for the next game!

"So, for the time being there's going to be a continued stream of DLC for people. We'll start to have packs that'll tell the story between Mass Effect 2 and 3. But beyond that," says Hudson, "we kind of have to see how people are responding to what we have and go from there."

Sounds like a smart move to me. Who knows what the fans want better than the fans themselves? Personally, new missions that feel important in the long run are what I want more than anything else.

I don't know about the rest of you, but after hearing about the recent patch for the Xbox 360 version, I have been seriously considering dropping everything else and getting sucked back into Mass Effect 2 yet again. Perhaps it's worth waiting a while longer for more add-ons to hit first.

This is kind of like Dead Rising 2's scheme.

It's kind of sleazy to charge for what essentially could be covered in an intro movie for the new game, if you ask me.

I don't like to pay for shit but I will for mass effect 2. I think mass effect has one of the most involving stories I've ever played through and the characters are awesome too. Even though the game might not be based in real world science the universe in it just seems believable

Do I like being nickel'd and dime'd? Nah. Do I like Mass Effect? I LOVE me some Mass Effect.

An intro movie would be fine but if the DLC has some real meat to it, so to speak and provides a quality experience then I'm willing to check it out. Though if it's just another mission with a tacked on bridge between the two games, that would be weak.

I'll wait to play it again when the GOTY edition is released.

as weird as it is admitting this, i would rather have this bridge story told through some more books. whatever though, more mass effect = more happy in my life.

This is cool and all but I'm waiting for DLC that brings Mass Effect back into the RPG and less into the 3rd person shooter realm.

Once they release that, I'll bite.

"Who knows what the fans want better than the fans themselves?"

If there's anything I've learned in this New Age of Gaming, it's that fans most certainly do NOT know what they want. Just look at the Sonic fanbase for proof.

Anyway, here's hoping they finally get DLC right with this. But, um... wasn't the plan with Mass Effect 1 to have gap-bridging DLC to Mass Effect 2?

@Magnalon: You don't pay for what could be, you pay for what is actually made.

I find it curious how books, comics, and other media can extend a story without any second thoughts but DLC gets people up in arms.

OT: I'm not too thrilled about new content for Mass Effect 2. Love it, but I already played through it. Twice. I know I will go back sooner or later - probably with all the significant post-Kasumi DLC, but not anytime soon (probably around the time 3 comes out).

I want to play this again but am trying to wait for the ***possible spoiler Liara DLC that have been floated around. Also I want to make a new Shephard & play through the 1st one again too.

Good point. I suppose I get miffed partially because DLC is, by nature, a finite non-physical product that will evaporate over time depending on when servers are dropped.

Also, unlike a stand-alone book, movie, or comic, DLC must be used in conjunction with a full retail purchase.

If you wanted to pick up an extended universe Jedi book, you wouldn't have to purchase a main series novel first. So for this particular bit of [ME2] canon, you have to make a $60 retail purchase, and if you ever lose or sell this purchase, the DLC is lost.

@Magnalon

Conversely, of course, if your HardDrive fizzles after the DLC's done being hosted/supported, you are equally hosed.

In the long run, even as a dude that loves DLC, I gotta agree that that scenario really stinks.

@article

YES! Exactly what I've been looking for! Just give me enough for everyone to ackowledge who didn't make it, and that I'm doing all these post mission side jobs for my own good, progressing reasons... and notjust my gamer completism! :D

@ T3h Kaiser

Yeah, I remember them saying that. And instead we got a crappy side mission and a really crappy side mission that was based on Mass Effect 1s crappy combat. Crap like that makes me sceptical about what they're saying now.

I think they're doing lightyears better so far, paid and free DLC so far considered

Yeah sure it will, and there will be whole planet dlc for mass effect one.

There was a reason why I had no qualms about trading me2 as soon as I'd finished it.

I'm all for it so long as its substantial DLC and not more Kasumi shit.

I like that Bioware is taking the idea of DLC seriously, but their current offerings are pretty bland. We'll see how the next mission DLC turns out, but I'm not hopeful. I'm pretty content with just waiting it out until ME3 hits.

That was pre-EA Bioware. Trust me, EA wants our money, and they'll slap together whatever cash grab tack-ons they can to get it.

And ultimately that's what this is; assured gouging. Or do you people really like the idea of paying nearly as much for shallow DLC as you did for the game itself? I'd like to try Stolen Memories, but a mission, some useless garb, and a mute character doesn't seem worth $7, apparently now the going rate for this stuff.

No no no! I've been through this before with a revolutionary shooter named after a scientific term (though that one was decidedly less fake). I've been through it, and I'm still going through it!

I'm having PTSD induced hallucinations here.

Eh, maybe if it ever comes on sale. I don't really appreciate crotch-shots like this (because that's the REAL reason they're doing it, I'm sure).

Thank you, may I have another?
