Speaking with VideoGamer, BioWare's Casey Hudson described what we can expect from the next batch of Mass Effect 2 downloadable content: a warm-up of sorts for the next game!
"So, for the time being there's going to be a continued stream of DLC for people. We'll start to have packs that'll tell the story between Mass Effect 2 and 3. But beyond that," says Hudson, "we kind of have to see how people are responding to what we have and go from there."
Sounds like a smart move to me. Who knows what the fans want better than the fans themselves? Personally, new missions that feel important in the long run are what I want more than anything else.
I don't know about the rest of you, but after hearing about the recent patch for the Xbox 360 version, I have been seriously considering dropping everything else and getting sucked back into Mass Effect 2 yet again. Perhaps it's worth waiting a while longer for more add-ons to hit first.
Story between ME2 and ME3 to be told via DLC [VideoGamer]

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It's kind of sleazy to charge for what essentially could be covered in an intro movie for the new game, if you ask me.
Once they release that, I'll bite.
If there's anything I've learned in this New Age of Gaming, it's that fans most certainly do NOT know what they want. Just look at the Sonic fanbase for proof.
Anyway, here's hoping they finally get DLC right with this. But, um... wasn't the plan with Mass Effect 1 to have gap-bridging DLC to Mass Effect 2?
I find it curious how books, comics, and other media can extend a story without any second thoughts but DLC gets people up in arms.
OT: I'm not too thrilled about new content for Mass Effect 2. Love it, but I already played through it. Twice. I know I will go back sooner or later - probably with all the significant post-Kasumi DLC, but not anytime soon (probably around the time 3 comes out).
Good point. I suppose I get miffed partially because DLC is, by nature, a finite non-physical product that will evaporate over time depending on when servers are dropped.
Also, unlike a stand-alone book, movie, or comic, DLC must be used in conjunction with a full retail purchase.
If you wanted to pick up an extended universe Jedi book, you wouldn't have to purchase a main series novel first. So for this particular bit of [ME2] canon, you have to make a $60 retail purchase, and if you ever lose or sell this purchase, the DLC is lost.
Conversely, of course, if your HardDrive fizzles after the DLC's done being hosted/supported, you are equally hosed.
In the long run, even as a dude that loves DLC, I gotta agree that that scenario really stinks.

YES! Exactly what I've been looking for! Just give me enough for everyone to ackowledge who didn't make it, and that I'm doing all these post mission side jobs for my own good, progressing reasons... and notjust my gamer completism! :D
Boner is popped and knocking everything off my desk,
Yeah, I remember them saying that. And instead we got a crappy side mission and a really crappy side mission that was based on Mass Effect 1s crappy combat. Crap like that makes me sceptical about what they're saying now.
I think they're doing lightyears better so far, paid and free DLC so far considered
There was a reason why I had no qualms about trading me2 as soon as I'd finished it.
That was pre-EA Bioware. Trust me, EA wants our money, and they'll slap together whatever cash grab tack-ons they can to get it.
And ultimately that's what this is; assured gouging. Or do you people really like the idea of paying nearly as much for shallow DLC as you did for the game itself? I'd like to try Stolen Memories, but a mission, some useless garb, and a mute character doesn't seem worth $7, apparently now the going rate for this stuff.
I'm having PTSD induced hallucinations here.
Thank you, may I have another?
