The Internet Matlocks are at it again, this time extracting a file from a recent Rock Band DLC pack. While I'm not even sure what would possess you to do this (or better yet, how you would do this), the results appear to be an eye-opening look at some future downloadable content from Harmonix's mega-game.

Included in the list are a number of the previously announced (but not specified) Grateful Dead tracks, as well as the remainder of Nirvana's Nevermind album (which many have anxiously been awaiting). Other selections include more songs from Weezer ("El Scorcho"), Stone Temple Pilots ("Sex Type Thing"), Smashing Pumpkins ("Zero"), and Garbage ("Why Do You Love Me?"), all bands which already appear on the game disc.

After the jump, find a list of songs from the list which have been unannounced, including my attempts at pairing the song names with their likely bands (the file only included song titles). Feel free to let me know if I've excluded anything, or if I've made any errors in song identification.

[ScoreHero forums, Via power-glove's cblog]

The Who - "Behind Blue Eyes"
The Rolling Stones - "Brown Sugar"
The Rolling Stones - "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
The Who - "Pinball Wizard"
Smashing Pumpkins - "Zero"

Oasis - "Rock 'n' Roll Star"
Def Leppard (or Muse, either of which would rule) - "Hysteria"
Tokio Hotel - "Through the Monsoon"
Blur - "Beetlebum"
Garbage - "Why Do You Love Me?"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Sex Type Thing"
Weezer - "El Scorcho"
Grateful Dead - "Casey Jones"

Grateful Dead - "Sugar Magnolia"
Grateful Dead - "Truckin'"
Grateful Dead - "I Need A Miracle"

God these songs blow some serious ass... it's like feeding us tapioka pudding through the internet... can we get some songs with life please? Something that isn't a 3 minute glam blam pussy ass song?

They started off all right with some Metallica, Sabbath, Faith No More, and some of the STP stuff...but Tokyo Hotel? Def Leppard, Weezer, Foo Fighters... haven't we got enough of this crap in the game an in life? No one needs more Def Leppard... NO ONE.

I don't know what their license list is like...but can't we get a little more selection. If anything the entire Real Thing album from Faith No More would be a suitable apology ;)

Woocifier, we have not confirmed which artists some of these songs are attached to.

Wait a minute, did you just say that Pinball Wizard has no life?
You sir, have insulted the Rock Gods, and you must do 3 sessions of singing Bohemian Rhapsody as Penance.

Yes! More Garbage!
and by that I mean NO!

Nevermind will be the one album I will most definately download.
I think playing Grateful Dead songs would be more of an endurance challenge than anything.

Grateful Dead? *sigh* Now I gotta get some acid.

Ironic non-sequitur fact: Former hippies are now addicted to antacid. Yay heartburn!

Ugh, they picked one of the worst songs from one of my favorite bands. Why not more off of Garbage's first album? Their most recent album is the worst.

And hey, when will we see some Muse? I want Muse dammit!

The first Guitar Hero had Jimi Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic". It was a cover but it was weird because it was instrumental. The making-of videos had footage of them recording the vocals but they must have thought the vocal cover wasn't good enough. The instrumental cover was pretty good though.

But yeah. More Hendrix would be nice too.

I think you'll be lucky to see anything original by Hendrix. As I understand it, his father Al Hendrix inherited the music rights after Jimi's death aged 27! (Same age as Brian Jones, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison for those of you want easy facts to remember, and impress people with. 27 and all 4 with J name's).

Anyway, after Al inherited the music rights, he wouldn't let anyone have any rights to reproduce the music, and when he died in 2002, he basically cut all of the rest of the family out of Jimi's legacy and tied it all up in a trust. The ongoing effect of this is to limit any release of his material.

I would be surprised if their was any release before the legal battle is sorted out. And it looks like Al was enough of a bastard to tie it up nicely, so the rest of the family can only appeal and never get their hands on any cash/rights to distribute his music.

Who picked el Scorcho from Weezer? That's not something you'd really want to jam to. Everyone aside from the singer will be bored through most of the song.

@dvddesign - my bet is Baba and a host of other awesome songs will be released when the make "ROCKBAND: Key-tar edition" Light My Fire would also be a good one for that

(New Post anyone?)

Personally, I want the entire album, since that was all the talk this time last year, of Appetite for Destruction. I could play it over and over and over. All day. Period. Need. Every song on it rules. And, Guitar World thinks its the best album album with me.

I'm willing to bet the the "Received your letter" is actually a Grateful Dead cover of Dylan's "Desolation Row". You heard it here first.

I intentionally left the Nirvana tracks off of this list here, because it had been announced. We're just waiting. Patiently. Very, very patiently.

@ BlackSunEmpire

That's an interesting point I did not know (kind of like how Michael Jackson owns all the beatles songs). But if he does own the music, maybe we would get some kind of leeway seeing as Hulk Hogan's theme from 1996-2004 was Voodoo Child and Guitar Hero featured Spanish Castle Magic. I dunno, licensing is so tricky and confusing. Thanks for the news!

@ jaworsky

I wish I would have seen your post before I wrote what I did. Because of Wacko Jacko owning the music, I think seeing the beatles in anything (although it would easily pull him out of bankruptcy) is very VERY unlikely
