DLC file reveals unannounced Rock Band songs, Internet Matlocks win again

6:02 PM on 02.13.2008, Nick Chester 78 comments

     Internet Matlocks

The Internet Matlocks are at it again, this time extracting a file from a recent Rock Band DLC pack. While I'm not even sure what would possess you to do this (or better yet, how you would do this), the results appear to be an eye-opening look at some future downloadable content from Harmonix's mega-game.

Included in the list are a number of the previously announced (but not specified) Grateful Dead tracks, as well as the remainder of Nirvana's Nevermind album (which many have anxiously been awaiting). Other selections include more songs from Weezer ("El Scorcho"), Stone Temple Pilots ("Sex Type Thing"), Smashing Pumpkins ("Zero"), and Garbage ("Why Do You Love Me?"), all bands which already appear on the game disc.

After the jump, find a list of songs from the list which have been unannounced, including my attempts at pairing the song names with their likely bands (the file only included song titles). Feel free to let me know if I've excluded anything, or if I've made any errors in song identification.

[ScoreHero forums, Via power-glove's cblog]

The Who - "Behind Blue Eyes"
The Rolling Stones - "Brown Sugar"
The Rolling Stones - "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
The Who - "Pinball Wizard"
Smashing Pumpkins - "Zero"
(no clue) - "Received Your Letter"
Oasis - "Rock 'n' Roll Star"
Def Leppard (or Muse, either of which would rule) - "Hysteria"
Tokio Hotel - "Through the Monsoon"
Blur - "Beetlebum"
Garbage - "Why Do You Love Me?"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Sex Type Thing"
Weezer - "El Scorcho"
Grateful Dead - "Casey Jones"
Grateful Dead - "Alabama Getaway"
Grateful Dead - "Sugar Magnolia"
Grateful Dead - "Truckin'"
Grateful Dead - "I Need A Miracle"
Grateful Dead - "China Cat Sunflower"
Grateful Dead - "Franklin's Tower"
Grateful Dead (or The Crash or the highly unlikely Jonathan Coulton) - "Still Alive"
Foo Fighters (or Van Halen) - "D.O.A."

Interesting. Sadly, I honestly haven't heard a good majority of the songs themselves, but I guess that's why I love GH/RB so much, since they are able to expose me to songs I probably would have never heard before.

Still none of the songs I want in though. Oh well.

Cool. I'm curious how much they'll charge for a whole album?

BSN, if you check out my clog or the forum post, the entire Nevermind album is on the list.

I intentionally left the Nirvana tracks off of this list here, because it had been announced. We're just waiting. Patiently. Very, very patiently.

Oh sweet, I guess I know whats on the album anyway.

I like the Jefferson Airplane reference at the beginning of Territorial Pissings, and how can you beat Polly, a (based on a true story) song about a rapist with a blowtorch, awesome.

Yeah, I also noticed that a lot of the DLC is coming from bands already found in the game. Then again, I guess that makes sense, seeing as the ties have already been created between the two/it's probably easier to get a hold of.

Let it be so! Aren't one of the Who's albums and one of the Grateful dead ones confirmed along Nirvana's? I'm hoping they go ahead and get Weezer's Blue album too.

Also, as simple as Smashing Pumpkin's Zero is, I'd rock the fuck out on that song.

Murder, this list has possibly 4 or 5 new Bands appearing on the list, like Tokio Hotel, Blur, DL/Muse, and if it's VH's DOA. That would be four new artists in RB. We,also have not figured out the artist attached to "Recieved Your Letter". Do not ruin people's fun cause this list is excellent.

After attempting some matlocking I can't find any song called "Received Your Letter" so I'm going to assume that was a typo on the original forum poster's part. If anyone has access to the file, maybe they can double check.

I DID come across a Blink 182 song called "Here's Your Letter" though that I could see them using. Especially since they've already had a song show up as DLC. Maybe that's what it's referring to.

@power-glove: It might be “DOA” by the Foo Fighters, off of In Your Honor.

I’d also love to see songs by bands not already in the game, but I’ll just be happy if they can get us those full albums that they promised way back when (Nevermind and Who’s Next).

Update, from HMXSean,Hey all,

Just to clarify I am going to post the following which is an official message regarding this leak

"This list of Rock Band DLC that was discovered within the files of a recent DLC pack is unconfirmed and subject to change. Please stay tuned for confirmation of Rock Band DLC closer to their release."

Essentially until I post here and say something is imminent it isn't.

Thanks!

Sean

It should be noted Harmonix has been doing some serious ass kissing to Jonathon Coulton and Still Alive has (fun) guitar, bass, drum, and vocals.

Pretty Grateful Dead heavy list there.

I'm still waiting for one game (GH or RB) to license Jimi Hendrix. Voodoo Child and All Along the Watchtower would be played to death

If that's the Jonathan Coulton (or even better, GLAdOS) version of "Still Alive", I'll go out and purchase a second copy of Rock Band. OK, maybe not, but I would buy the track that morning and then play the hell out of it.

Fuck yeah, more Smashing Pumpkins is a welcome thing. Both Siva dn Cherub Rock were awesome to play (the former actually being quite the challenge on guitar and drums). I knew it wasnt long before Zero was announced....im sure Bullet With Butterfly Wings will be close behind.

Song 2 by Blur would be a great addition. Beatlebum is an awesome song, but i just dont see it being a good Rock Band choice....then again, who knows, ill still buy it.

Bravo Harmonix, fuck Guitar Hero.
