Hey gang, remember that Crackdown downloadable content pack we referred to all mysterious-like not long ago? Turns out that Realtime Worlds' update for their infamous sandbox crime-stomper is going to amount to more than just a new vehicle or two. TeamXbox has the scoop on the update in detail, and it's looking to be a complete revitalization.

Not only are we going to get a lot of nitty-gritty fixes -- easier orb hunting for the last 50% of agility orbs, driving fixes, the ability to reset gang leaders, and a slew of others -- but a heaping handful of extra content that will get even the most grizzled veteran ready for another go-round. The new DLC will come in two flavors: "Free-for-all", which as it sounds is... well, free, and the "Getting Busy" premium pack, which will run 800 points.

Despite its price point of the tidy sum of nothin', the Free-for-all pack provides some truly compelling additions, including "Keys to the City", an all-encompassing cheat mode that allows players to spawn objects and vehicles, crank strength and speed into overdrive, and grant themselves infinite ammo. Should make for some really interesting co-op shenanigans. Players will also be able to impound any vehicle in the game, making them accessible at the Agency garage at a moment's notice. The premium pack includes a slew of new weapons and vehicles, new game modes for both solo and co-op play, new agility races and an additional 350 achievement points to be collected via an assortment of fresh challenges.

Holy crap, this is how you rock downloadable content. I hope other developers are paying attention, because this is what we ought to expect if we're paying money for content in games we already own. This is DLC done right, and it should be coming sometime this week, barring any sudden delays. Be sure to check out TeamXbox's write-up for complete details.

Woah, easier to find orbs? Explain how. I'm still sitting at 299 hidden orbs and 496 agility orbs.

I thought we weren't going to have to pay for the last 100 achievement points?

Never mind, just read the source article.

The 100 remaining points are in the free content, and then some. Nice.

any word on how much the ultra premium pack costs, and what it has that the free pack doesn't?
I can't wait for this, I still play the game often

@arrested

There not easier to find, there louder the fewer you have left. In your case that thing will hum across the map begging you to find it.

see, now this is the right way to do it! i particularly like the bit about how, if one player in a co-op game has bought the extra content, the other player can use it too. i feel like certain games are being "held hostage" because people who haven't bought the downloads can't play with people who have.

just another reason crackdown is one of the best games out there. worth buying, even disregarding the "free halo beta inside."

@allisonaxe

The Pay-Pack is 800 MS Points. I saw it listed at both Ars Technica and Major Nelson's site.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really looking forward to the new rooftop races.

Pretty much everything in this DLC sounds awesome. I can't wait to harpoon a dude to a car and set a proximity mine on another car heading towards him. The competitive stuff sounds like fun too.

Evilavatar.com said this is coming out today, anyone know if thats true?

Mauer, I'll look into it. If indeed this is true, I have a feeling I'll get exactly zero work done on my senior project. Crackdown has a way of ruining college.

Major Nelson says "this week", Mauer. That may very well be today -- I certainly hope it is. I updated the post to reflect this new information.

Awesome! I've been sitting at 900 achievement points in this game for a long time, waiting for this update. This update totally exceeds my expectations. Props to MS and Realtime Worlds!

This should win game of the year in every possible category. Given the scope and open nature of this game, that means pretty much EVERY category.

Can't believe this content... I am gonna harpoon my buddies face to my dune buggy (pre-stuck with limpet charges of course), drive up the side of the Agency tower with him in rag-doll tow, and just when I peak the top of the tower (that is also pre-loaded with a hun-spot of exploding barrels) I will hop out, set off the limpets which'll set off the barrels...all the while enjoying the sunset.

Fuck Gears, fuck Halo. Crackdown is where it's at. Thank you David Jones & Co.

The Crackdown page on Xbox.com says the content is out now! But it's nowhere to be found on the marketplace. :(

Let's not forget that all this downloadable content Should really be in the game when you purchased it.
Take a look at all the stuff that's in the GTA games and All the extras in The Resident evil games.
Even though i think Crackdown is an Excelent game i still feel as if i only got half of a game, i don't think it's fair that we should have to pay more on top of what we already paid for the game to get the whole thing.

Sweet! I'm definitely gonna have to get money to buy Crackdown....

And like everyone said, this should be the way DLC should be done...

I can see the "This stuff should have been in the game to begin with," argument, but Crackdown was pretty solid out of the box.

The amount of content in just the free pack is insane. Even the ten dollar DLC is HUGE. Realtime Worlds, I love you.
