Bemani fans, lend me your ears. And fingers. The latest iteration of Korean-developed rythm game DJMAX, which found some stateside popularity with its PSP Ports, is now being tested at two locations in the Los Angeles area. This beta version of DJMAX Technika can be played at UCLA's Ackerman Union arcade, Coinz, or at Game Play in Long Beach.

The game still features its trademark synth-tek soundtrack and beautifully animated Korean art background videos, but gone is the furious, rapid-fire button assault we've grown used to. Instead, DJMAX Technika uses a touch screen, (which is reportedly more sensitive than that of an iPhone), and has players poking at dots and tracing their fingers over lines to keep the groove going.

Some Bemani purists might groan at the idea of this new interface, but it looks pretty awesome if you ask me. PM Studios producer Michael Yum will be hanging around at the UCLA test looking for feedback, so if you're in the LA area, go check it out and see what you think. At worst, it might mean that the few remaining arcades in this country would have something more interesting to play than DDR and Golden Tee

Is that NSFW at 0:13?
Anyway this game looks great, the PSP ports were ridiculously addictive.

I think it looks fun. You can get all Bruce Lee with the poke of death all over that screen.

Surely this would be better suited to the DS? Just guess the music will be crushed down to 4bit and the graphics 2d?

also also.

nice to see it has some of the Classiquai music from the latest. and Miles? Not a hard song but I love the music itself.

and this better have Blythe and Oblivion...or else it's not a DJ Max game.

For those of you worried about space aids, the screen is sensitive enough that it'll respond to non-static input, so you can technically poke at it with a stylus or something if you're scared of germs. Although why you'd be in an arcade in the first place if that's the case is beyond my undersanding.

I want one too!
There was some kind of trade show or convention at one of the Los Angeles Hotels and they had this out as a demo. Very cool! Very hip! Very Los Angeles!
