DJ Hero Renegade Edition means business photo

Special Editions may not be so special these days, but the Renegade Edition of DJ Hero certainly does its job well, which is to say it makes the regular package look kind of crappy by comparison. If you're at all serious about being a videogame DJ, here's what Renegade Edition comes with:

  • DJ Hero game (I'd certainly hope so, right?)
  • Renegade turntable controller featuring premium metal controls and finish
  • Hardshell turntable carrying case that converts to performance-ready DJ stand
  • Exclusive JAY-Z and EMINEM 2-CD pack featuring unreleased tracks and collectible case designed by artist Shepard Fairey

We weren't told how much this bundle will run for, but it will probably cost a lot (the standard DJ Hero is priced at $120) and you know what, the package doesn't even include night vision goggles. Don't tell me I'm the only one who wants to DJ the night away. How else am I going to see in the dark?

Metal controls? That's pretty nice actually, it'd probably last longer and wont break as fast as the plastic regular version.

Wasn't Kotick the one to say console needed be lowered because consumers couldn't afford such high prices?

What a jackass.

Is it bad that I'm actually really looking forward to this?

No NVG's? No purchase, sorry Activision!

First off, Activision needs to stop RENDERING all of this shit and give us ACTUAL FUCKING PICTURES.

However, I'm really excited for this. And the Renegade edition is pretty badass. . .

The regular price of this thing is already a little too much to consider getting the game. I'm surprised they have the balls to put this out.

And everyday my hope that Best Buy will sell the regular bundle for $100 the first week as they always seem to do with the Guitar Hero Guitar bundles (at least in my area anyway).

While I was sort of hoping for more out of the special edition, I guess it gets the job done. If it does end up being roughly the same price as the MW2's prestige edition, there goes any interest in it.

@Loogibot

Not at all mate, I'm totally up for it too.

While the metal looks nice from what I've seen and heard the standard controller/deck is very sturdy so not much added benefit really. I'm also sceptical if the CD will actually feature any tracks I haven't already heard by either of them so I won't be tempted by the special edition. Then again I'm never tempted by any special editions, they are only ever desired by the weirdo hoarder types with more money than sense*. I mean surely any nutcases that want to perv on people at night already have night vision goggles :P

*This does not apply to DVD's as they are not packaged with crap, instead adding features to further enhance your viewing experience. If games had deleted levels etc then we'll talk :)

Whoever buys this is a douche canoe. If I offended anyone looking forward to this....too bad. If I have to shell out even more money on top of an already high priced peripheral just so it doesn't look like a toy, I'm putting my money elsewhere. This would look cool if I was still in middle school.

This thing won't teach you a thing about the art of mixing if you just control pre scripted mashups of top 40 shit.

A table? What the hell? I mean, I'd consider getting it, but if it doesn't even come with a second turntable for playing with a friend, I can't in good conscience get that.

for roughly the same price as the normal edition of the game (and sometimes less), you can buy this and be a real dj. with this "special" announcement of eminem and jay z, this game is going to officially suck. make your money more useful.

Still doesn't compare to a DJ Max controller.

I can't be the only one who sees DJ Hero as shameless exploitation by Activision.

I like that it comes with a turntable stand, but not enough to spring for the Renegade Edition.
