DJ Hero confirmed, called a 'licensing nightmare' photo

Not too long ago we brought you a rumor about a new Activision title called DJ Hero. The information about the title seemed solid, but didn’t have any substantiation past an initial shadowy source. MTV recently secured another mysterious source person who has confirmed the existence of the title.

The source said that DJ Hero’s reported mechanics are “really good,” but regarded the title as a “licensing nightmare” as a result of having to work with the music industry so closely. Considering the nature of mash-ups in the game, one has to wonder if a couple of curse words have been tossed around in FreeStyleGame’s offices regarding the licensing.

Even though DJ Hero sounds awesome, I still wonder if it will perform anywhere near the level that I am imagining. Really, all I want to do is act like Paul Oakenfold. Make that happen, Activision.

I'm glad that the industry is open to this stuff and producing high quality games before an indie studio goes completely over their heads and produces the equivalent of DJ Hero, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and Cowbell Hero with algorhythms that let us use whatever music we want to load into it without having to pay a fortune for DLC on stuff we've already bought in tape, CD, and MP3 online for two different services. At least they have the headstart, anyway. Golf claps all around!

I'm really excited for this game. Alot of people can't stand Rock/metal music (like myself) so a hip-hop themed music game is exactly what I've been waiting for!!! Hopefully everything works out ok

I'll play it if it's actual hip hop and not club music.

If they put a Girl Talk mash-up in there as a bonus track or something there's pretty much no price that'll be too high for me. I don't even know why I'm setting myself up for this disappointment though.
