DJ Hero box art says Guitar Hero on it photo

Here it is, your official box art for the base edition of DJ Hero.

My first reaction was that it looks like a musical ransom note of sorts. My second reaction was "Oh, snap! They're mixing Beastie Boys with Bel Biv effin' Devoe!" But the inclusion of the Guitar Hero name and logo, displayed proudly on the box, definitely caught me off guard.

Not surprising, as the Guitar Hero brand is strong; it would almost be as silly as leaving Call of Duty off of the box art for Modern Warfare 2. But the "Hero" name and its logo (which DJ Hero borrows) is certainly well-recognized on its own. I suppose a little extra assurance that it'll catch eyes when on retail shelves isn't a bad thing for Activision, though.

Initially, I thought it was too busy. But thinking about it further, it does a decent job of conveying the DJ/genre-mash-up culture the game is going for. So what do you think?

Other than the Guitar Hero logo (which looks really out of place without any context), I'm really digging the box art. It reminds me of this Jet Set Radio wallpaper I had a few years back.

And assuming those are mixes on the side, I'm really intrigued by a few of them.

The boxart's nothing terribly special, IMO, but it's far from bad. It is kinda odd to brand it with guitar hero like that, since it's blatantly obvious, but still. I'm probably not gonna buy this, regardless. It might be kinda fun to try once or twice, but I don't think it's worth buying another peripheral.

Is the Guitar Hero typeface so important to the branding that they had to use it for this game too? Look at that J. Looks goofy. Some graf or techno style would've been preferable. Or use a font that every DJ would recognize:

Or the Guitar Hero is there because you can play Guitar on ten of the songs.

as a DJ, gamer, and hip-hop fan this box art does not really resonate with me, but I guess its ok.

I gotta say, I'm more interested in Scratch if only because the controller looks better. Numark makes pretty good stuff.

Has anybody had any hands-on time with both or either of the controllers? I'm terribly interested in how they feel.

This is pretty cool. It honestly doesn't strike me as what you would expect DJ Hero to have as box art, but I can dig it.

Gary Numan's in it. I'm sold.

Also, it will never happen, but I hope the last song is a 20 minute Girl Talk mashup of every song in the game.

Why the hell is the logo still written in the "Guitar Hero" font, when that font was used to relate the original game to the cheesy Metal/Rock logos of the past?

It's not entirely bad though, it just doesn't suit that game in my opinion. Some graff or stencil version of the logo would've been fuckloads better i reckon.

Logo sucks, background art is busy but cool. This is the least of my worries, since I'm now debating about just whether or not I want (not need) the Renegade Edition.

Cool idea, but I think the colors are a little off- too many oversaturated purples and yellows, and the gray on the side just looks ugly.

Meh. Certainly not as bad as the atrocious Guitar Hero 5 box art, but damn dude. Just from a design standpoint, that is terrible. It's just like random stickers placed everywhere with genres of music or just random shit. There's like six stickers on there that all say "Hip Hop." If they wanted to do something like this, they need to make it about 75% less busy, and use a notebook paper aesthetic underneath it, sort of like what Harmonix did with the original Guitar Hero's menus and instruction manual.

I'm definitely pumped to get whichever DJ game turns to be better between DJ Hero and Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, but man... this is not like the original Guitar Hero's box. I proudly display that. This I'll probably just shove in my closet and never let it see the light of day.

Is it legal to hide the ESRB logo like that? I know for sure that the German USK would throw a hissyfit if their logo were so hard to find.
