Now, I don't expect too many of you to be excited, especially if you're not British, but DIZZY THE EGG IS COMING BACK!
The ancient mascot of Codemasters (before the studio went a bit rubbish), Dizzy starred in a series of taxing puzzle-adventures on the Commodore 64 and other home computers, most of them revolving around using twisted logic to use random items with other objects and clear obstacles.
A teaser site promises Eggciting News and Codemasters has said that a date for "Eggmergance Day" will be revealed tomorrow. Oh, the egg puns. It's like the late eighties never stopped happening.
Dizzy: Prince of the Yolk Folk is the very first videogame I ever remember purchasing -- or at least getting my grandmother to purchase. I still remember picking it out of the cassette rack in WH Smith, back when cassette games still appeared in places other than suitcases in the back of someone's car. The series therefore is quite special to me, and I am thrilled at the idea of him coming back.
Check below for a teaser trailer. I know it sounds silly, but the video gave me chills at the end! Sweet nostalgia.

Meet the rest of the team
I bet $5 that they're gonna pull a Commander Keen/Jazz Jackrabbit/James Pond. (read: that it's gonna be a rubbish new game based on a awesome, old franchise)
Fuck you guys, I still think Overlord and Overlord II were awesome. What other game lets you club baby seals to death for life force to build new minions? Your minions will also make hats out of them.
I remember we had a shitty MS DOS operated computer in like my primary 2 class. We used to get rewarded for good behaviour by being allowed to play some games, which was a Dizzy the Egg game.
Sweet, now if I can persuade you to use your subtle powers of persuasion to say get Capcom to release MML3 or NIS to release Black Rock Shooter on UMD in NA ?
One of my favourite Codemasters games ever was Cosmic Spacehead, I rented it a ton of times and I was always looking for it to buy but this wa near the end of the Mega Drive's life cycle. I finally found a place that had for the insanely low price of $3 complete in package. I bought it took it home and tried to play it but it turned out that printed on this cartridge was Dizzy. everything else about the game said Cosmic Spacehead, manual, cover, cartridge sticker but not the game itself. I was so upset and till this day I hate Dizzy.
P.S. This will probably turn out to be an iPhone port
This is good. This is very very good. Fantastic Dizzy on the Genesis/Mega Drive is one of my favorite old school platformers of all time. I just hope it doesn't turn out rubbish.
wow! this is really interesting!
let's hope they don't screw it up as sometimes happens when companies try to revive classics.
i did so love the dizzy games when i could manage to get further than 3 screens.
those games were brutal with the lives system. if you fail, you have to do EVERYTHING again.
If you think the puns are going to stop anytime soon then the yolk's on you. But we mustn't omlette any eggcitement get in the way of the eggsistential issues, nor let the standing ovumation drown out any eggsacting critiques. While we should all look at the sunny-side of this we shouldn't let it scramble our perseptives. Sure, this news goes over-easy right now but we have yet to see any signs of eggcellence.
Such fond memories of this series. Treasure Island Dizzy was one of the first games i ever played (first ever accolade actually goes to Repton)and i loved it. Back in the pre-internet days finding those last, elusive, coins(?) was a case of scouring every inch of the game world and, i think, pressing up (maybe a different button) in front of every leaf.
I'm not British or anything, but...DIZZY? Oh man. I never beat the one I had on NES (Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy) but I loved that game. It was horribly difficult for a child my age, but still...oh man. Do want more.
I actually wondered if they would ever bring this guy back. I played a few of the Dizzy games and loved them but never once finished any of them or ever got that far.
Aah back when tapes with c64 games on were inEGGspensive.
They should re-release ALL the games in their "Quattro" lineup (games like Stuntman, Bigfoot EGGcetera)
Oh I used to love Dizzy on my old speccy for may of us old UK gamers Dizzy was the Mario/ Sonic of his day. Im not a great lover of puzzle platformers but dizzy does it well with dark souls trial and error.
I really hope Codemasters remember what made made the games special and not give us some shitty spyro style 3D platformer
BTW I too would welcome a new Micro Machines with online co-op

Dude went to Hollywood and ended up in the Wild West! Then...not much happened, other than that mini-game on the cover tape for Amstrad Action.

God damn I was awful at it.

How eggsquisite!

Way to poach all the good egg puns
However, I remember seeing a 3D Dizzy concept Codemasters put out some time ago, and it looked...wonky.
Ok that one was awful.
I never could tell if the Dizzy games were incredibly convoluted or if I was just too young to know what the hell I was supposed to do.

Ah memories of buying new spectrum +2 games for £1.99 from my local market with my pocket money on Thursdays. -_-
Then 16bit came along and the price of new games jumped to £30+ (which was a lot of money in 1990) sigh
Just like I vaguely remember Codemasters being a decent game developer...
That's 'cause I'm hard-boiled and not some simple yolk-el.
