Some new Intel has risen from the depths of Japan that seems to indicate a home console outing for Square Enix's giant fan service PSP game, Dissidia: Final Fantasy. A scan from a Japanese magazine has listed the game for the Xbox 360 and PS3, which could of course mean one important and wonderful potential addition -- online play.
If you're unfamiliar with Dissidia, it's more or less the Super Smash Bros. of Final Fantasy, mashing together heroes and villains from the past ten major installments in the RPG franchise. We reviewed it last year, and found the game to be alright at best. Still, perhaps some home console improvements could improve the game.
Nothing but feckless gossip at the moment, but worth considering, nonetheless.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I guess I don't care too much, to be honest. Though I bet I will at least glance at the progress it makes if this ever comes to pass.
Unfortunately, I can't really stand Nomura's character art. It really just upsets me for some reason. Especially when I see FFIX's characters in his style. It's too much.
I wonder if it'll be anything like XIII Versus. If it is then it'll be interesting to have two games from the same series with the same gameplay made by the same developer on the scene. Of course only one option will be available for 360 owners so that may even things out or just cause more fanboy riffage.
See, its just as much of an RPG as it is a brawler. All those skills and abilities and weapons com from lots of time grinding through the early and main story, along with the endgame and bonus unlockable content. I've sunk over 120+ hours in and still don't have one ultimate weapon to show of it and its still cranking out all these useful little doodad to make weapons from and accessories that boost certain parameters.
Those that build characters are not going to want to play with people who just want to play with defaulted characters.
@ Nevi - No kidding. I sat through every cutscene hoping that there would at least be some corny line I could laugh at...and I rarely got them. T_T
Yes I'd buy this fucking game a 3rd time.
Dissidia is in the top 3 of my fav. games of 2009. My boyfriend and I play it almost every day on our PSPs. It's a blast! SO much content!!
I wouldn't mind an actual game like this on the ps3/xbox though - teach nintendo how to make a great brawl game. (not that Smashbros doesn't ROCK! Just man, SO MANY ISSUES with that game!) I've sunk over 300 hours into Dissida, and over 400 in brawl, so I'm not being a fanboy or anything. I just love me some fightin' games that aren't like SF or MK.
Online play please.
Thank you very much.
