Disney Sing It can Disney SUCK it! photo

Early this morning we received a press release in our robot Inbox for an upcoming game called Disney Sing It for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

I almost passed out from happiness.

Instantly, I started thinking about a videogame that would let me sing such Disney classics like “One Jump Ahead” and “Kiss the Girl.” I imagined canceling plans on Saturday nights, lighting a bunch of candles, and singing “A Whole New World” to my cardboard cut out of Princess Jasmine until the sun comes up. My life would finally be complete!

But then I read the rest of the game’s title: Disney Sing It: Pop Hits. Wait, “Pop Hits?” What is going on?! The awful truth hit me when my misty eyes viewed the game’s proposed track list: Miley Cyrus (ugh!), Jonas Brothers (argh!), Coldplay (GAH!).

And then I wept.

I understand there are children out there that love the above mentioned “musicians” and that this game will most likely appeal to a specific audience. But, honestly, let me see a show of hands: how many of you would buy a sing-along Disney game with real Disney songs from the animated movies? (Pause for overwhelming response.) See, I knew it! It would sell millions! MILLIONS, DAMMIT! Come on, Disney, there is a market for a game like this. PLEASE have it made. Do it for Destructoid. Do it ... for me.

DISNEY INTERACTIVE STUDIOS ANNOUNCES DISNEY SING IT: POP HITS

Upcoming Karaoke Video Game Celebrates Top Pop Favorites

BURBANK, Calif. – (May 7, 2009) – Disney Interactive Studios today announced that Disney Sing It: Pop Hits, the third game in the video-based karaoke video game franchise, will be released this fall. Disney Sing It: Pop Hits features 30 master recordings and popular music videos from fan favorites, including Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat, Demi Lovato, Hannah Montana, Jesse McCartney, Coldplay and One Republic. This instantly recognizable mix of Radio Disney and platinum-status talent allows players of all ages to connect with current artists right in their own living rooms.

“Great music, chart-topping artists and immersive gameplay are the key components in making this franchise popular with tweens and families around the world,” said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “In addition to an exciting new collection of songs, the fun factor has been raised with new multiplayer elements that will bring hours of enjoyment to music fans of all ages.”

In Disney Sing It: Pop Hits, fans will enjoy familiar single and multiplayer game modes such as singing solo, duet and head-to-head. Players will learn how to sing from a professional in the newly expanded “Sing It Pro” mode. Led by Disney Channel star Tiffany Thornton from “Sonny With A Chance,” this series of voice exercises runs through the basics of pitch and breathing, all the way up to harmonizing in a duet and riffing. These exercises are designed to teach players how to sing so they can unlock special rewards based on vocal improvements as they play.

Additional expanded and new features include:
• Sing It Encore: Record and play back performances, and apply special effects
• Run the Risk: Attempt to outbid opponents on predicted scores
• Duet Mode: Harmonize with friends to earn higher scores
• Unlockables : Earn pins and themes to customize console wallpapers

Slated for a fall release, Disney Sing It: Pop Hits follows last year’s release of Disney Sing It and this spring’s Disney Sing It: High School Musical 3: Senior Year. These titles provide a fresh and interactive social experience for fans, where they can team up or compete in lively performance battles with friends.

Developed by Zoë Mode, Disney Sing It: Pop Hits will be available this fall for Wii™ and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. The game will be sold as a standalone or bundled with one Logitech microphone for all systems.

And yes, I would definitely buy your version. The pop stars will be gone in five years. REAL Disney songs are timeless. TIMELESS!

Well Chad, if you really cared you would have imported the UK version that does have (most of) those songs, and a PAL PS2 to play them on, and an appropriate TV if that still didn't work. But you obviously don't care, do you?

Hey now. While it's true that Miley Cyrus and the Jonas dicks are manufactured corporate tools, Coldplay at least have some semblance of songwriting talent.

That being said though, I hate all three bands/artists.

Yeah, I didn't mean to group Coldplay with Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. I don't like their music, but Coldplay is obviously more talented than both of them.

I am just angry. :)

The sick part is that Disney has become such shit in the last 10-15 years that I wouldn't have even thought a Disney Sing It game would BE a game featuring all those badass songs. I would have automatically assumed it would have been all the filth that's actually in it.

I just want an Aladdin Sing It game. Best Disney movie ever made, best songs ever made. I don't care that it's like 9 songs, I would play them all over and over until my voice stopped working.

When the first Disney Sing It was announced I was looking forward to buying it for my daughter so we could sing some of the classic disney songs. Then I find out it's Hannah Montana, High School Musical and other disney 'pop' artists. Now they have 3 of the games and still no songs from the animated movies! I'll buy the new one for my daughter, but I'd like to be able to play with her, but I don't much enjoy the tween music.

Also, this is crap, what's next? Aladdin singing Jonas Brothers songs? Damn!

Hey Chad, you can always play Ultrastar, the open source knockoff of Singstar for the PC. Someone even went to the trouble of making a Disney song pack for it. Unfortunately, the songlist is seriously lacking, but if you're dedicated, you can even make your own songs!

P.S. "Beauty and the Beast" song is the best!
