Disney film Wreck-It Ralph is all about videogames photo

It's very easy to tune out when Disney announces a new non-Pixar animated film these days. Slowly but surely, the company is starting to recapture some of that old spark with movies like The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, and Winnie the Pooh, but I still get nervous, especially when it comes to CG projects. The main animation studio ought to stick with the hand-drawn stuff, please.

Still, you might want to keep an eye on this next one. Entitled Wreck-It Ralph, it stars John C. "For Your Health" Reilly as the titular Wreck-It Ralph, the villain of a Donkey Kong-ish arcade game who wants to try his hand at being the hero for a change. Not much else about the story is known, but we now have some (what appears to be) concept art of various game worlds, such as a Halo-inspired zone and another that looks like Candy Land.

The movie is scheduled for November, and there is still so much that can go wrong before an official trailer surfaces. Regardless, I'm glad that studios are finally embracing real game lore into their films that isn't simply the button-mashing zombie using a PS2 controller to play what sounds like an Atari 2600.

The director made two of my favorite eps of Futurama, so I'm sold. Non-Pixar Disney computer animation used to be wretched (I'm looking directly at you, Meet the Robinsons), but it's been steadily improving since Bolt.

I recently watched both 'Tangled' and 'Princess and the Frog', which were both a LOT better than I was expecting. I've got high hopes for this, although it appears that the "bad-guy-turns-good" theme is becoming popular, with 'Despicable Me' and 'Megamind coming' to mind.

Saw the teaser a few months back -- I'm stoked. A videogame-centric film with John C. Reilly sounds awesome.

"using a PS2 controller to play what sounds like an Atari 2600."
I've seen more things on TV using a 360 controller than a "PS2" controller.

A video game movie...that's not an adaptation of a video game?

Interesting...

Princess and The Frog and Tangled are both awesome movies for kids. DISCLAIMER: I have a daughter.

I FUCKING LOVE PRINCESS AND THE FROG! Tangled was cute but a bit safe and dull. Kinda wish they went for the water colored animation they originally wanted for that film.

IMPROBABLE PREDICTION INCOMING. This is just going to be the typical "bad guy turns good guy and good guy turns bad guy" adventure with no surprises and a video game setting.

Yaaaaaaawn.

Fuck the controller, I hate seeing 2 people "playing" a shooter at the same thim with no split screen, it drives me insane. Im looking at u scrubs and franklin and bash(they actually had 4 people playing resistance at the same time with just one tv no split)

@BkV

yep, it was last summer. I was about to say myself that Disney isn't recapturing much when people seem to have mostly ignored Princess and the Frong, Tangled and Winnie the Pooh.. Their movies don't really hold the same weight any more, and I kinda blame it on their relationship with Pixar, and Pixar's ability to make movies that pull on the heartstrings that appeal to everyone.

Anyway, Been following this game for a while now and its come a long way from its original concept.. A LONG way.. but it still looks decent. I have hopes for this even thought the general message is an over used one. The concept itself almost fits better as a Cartoon Parody movie, until you realize that Donkey Kong went through a similar change himself -and that not many enemies in games seem to be able to do that.
