Dismemberment! Terror! New Silent Hill V screens! photo
     DO WANT

Silent Hill V is looking more gorgeously detailed than ever, and we finally have some new screenshots to prove it (not the same old ones that everyone keeps mistaking for new, either!) Of course, your general non-Silent Hill fan may glance at them and say, "That's just a bunch of pics of a guy running around in the dark with a gun." I'll tell you now, you're absolutely right. However, for a Silent Hill fan, that image is the equivalent of bread given to a starving man (or a fingerbanging session to one Mr. Chad Concelmo.)

While the look of the game doesn't indicate if it will play as a fulfilling experience or not, I'm pleased to see a world I'm interested in interacting in. As soon as we hear more details you'll see them here, likely posted by me inbetween fits of joyfully incoherent swearing.

Totally makes my day too. Look at that clocktower in the fog. So perty. And that shemale monster looks like it is going to be fun in action.

Looks decent, but I'll hold judgments till we see some actual game play. The texturing in some of these shots could use some work.

So far, I think Alone in the Dark is gonna spank Silent Hill this time around, but we'll see when they finally release.

Because it is definitely relevant to my interests.

Im really looking forward to this but I'm disappointed by how light the indoor locations look.

If it aint skin xrawlingly dark with only your torch to light the way, it aint really Silent Hill.

@ Brian Keljore:

I believe that this is being released on the Xbox 360 & PS3.

They really need to get rid of those dogs. I'm also looking @ you Resident Evil.

I can't wait to see how Dead Space, Alone in the Dark, and this game compare to each other. I may be a little biased already because I love the Silent Hill series.

as a SH who has played all the SH games (except SH0, which should be coming for PS2) from the shots shown, it looks clean. Too clean.

i'd expected a little more -dirt/grunge- but that could be later :/

*gasm!* Thank you Colette. I'm glad I have someone to rely on for my Silent Hill news for which I am chomping at the bit! Anything you can give us is appreciated.

Re-playing SH3 at the moment because I just can't seem to wait...

I'll go ahead and be a hater... The quality of the screens look good. The depth of field effects look good. The new-gen fog looks good... but... there's nothing in any of these screens that fills my pants with terror-dookey.

I'm just not feeling it here yet. This is Silent Hill, though. Thanks to it, I now have a Pavlov's Dog reaction every time I hear an air raid siren. I'm hoping they don't cock this up. I'm even optimistic they won't. But these screens don't further their cause, IMO.

Does need more "dark" Silent Hill screenies, but I'm still excited. Can't wait 'til it's done, it's like waiting for Christmas, and I'm 5 years old again.

@RaiRed

The original team made some bad choices with SH4. Zero was a much better game even if there were some pointless things (tons of useless, breakable weapons.

SH5 could end up a stinker but I can't imagine it could be worse than 4, which can barely even be considered a Silent Hill game (which it wasn't, originally).

Yeah it looks okay, but looks are just a fraction of the Silent Hill experience.Even though up till 4 the series looked fucking amazing for the time.Anywayz, this new american dev team has a whole lot to live up to.Especially with such a shoddy past (a Mark Ecko game?WTF?) they have alot to prove and its going to be interesting to see if they have what it takes to pull this off.

damn this game looks like I'll start playing it in the dark, but then wait until dawn to continu, just to be sure :-)

The game's gonna suck, guys. It's being made by The Collective, the same folks that brought us Wrath Unleashed, Star Wars Episode III, and Da Vinci Code. Sorry Silent Hill fans, it ends with this one.

I'm still not too optimistic about this. Seems to be riding on the rest of the series' coattails instead of moving forward. Plus I hate the inclusion of the transition between worlds like in the movie. I thought that just robbed the change of any horror because although it looks crazy it gives it an understandable process.

And frankly these shots just look like higher res last gen. The worlds are still very simple geometry and lacking in detail.

The outdoor shots got me probably far more excited than they should. I'm fucking LOVING the look of Silent Hill proper.
The indoor and monsters shots? Meh.

Honestly, I wish the SH games would get made more like the first one. It's so much scarier when you have NO IDEA what is hunting you than to have this brightly lit thing that's more gross than it is scary.

Give me PIANOS IN THE DARK and that fucking corridor where your radio goes off when there aren't any enemies around instead of lol Pyramid Head again plzkthnx.
