Discountoid: Week of 9/21/2008 photo

You know what is better than videogames? Cheap videogames. We have an expensive hobby and it helps to be able to save a few bucks here and there. And each week, retailers vie for our attention with assorted offers of reduced prices and freebies to snag our gaming dollar.

Enter Discountoid. Every week, I'll be compiling the various promotions offered by major US chains in their ad circulars and giving you the skinny on how you can save a bit of cash. Don't see your preferred outlet? Tell me and I'll look into getting it added to the list.

This week, Toys "R" Us is having a birthday bash for its mascot, resulting in a Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotion. Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree and Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 are seeing a significant price drop across the board. And Fry's Electronics must have a lot of Prey sitting in their warehouses, as they've tossed it into a 360 bundle.

Hit the jump to find out where you can score some savings this week.

This whole Week is Fubar.

I need 30 bucks for DnD Players Guide, I need to save about 200 bucks for PC Upgrades, and I want to preorder Luminous Ark 2, not to mention all this Bungie Rumors makes me want to go out and see If I can pick up Oni again.

And I only have 100 dollars. Fuck You Money Management, I need a job.

I got Lost Planet for $9.99 yesterday, well $8.48 or whatever with the little Gamestop card.

Couldn't pass that one up.

GoG.com is currently in beta, and is offering a crapload of older games, optimized for use in XP/Vista, for 5.99 or less. Most of the games are from the Interplay catalog, but there are more to follow, apparently. They take paypal!

Hmm, I may have to book it out to Toys R Us and pick up some old PS2 games or something. That, and maybe some toys (lolz).

Too bad I'm in Canada and most of these deals (and stores) probably don't exist. Oh well, I'll be keeping an eye on this segment anyways.

I HAS A DEAL FROM BEST BUY

The 12 Month Live Starter Pack that includes 12 months of Live, the Live Vision Camera, a couple Arcade games, and some MS points is on sale for $49.99, which is the cost of the 12 month card that's inside the box. So you're really getting a camera, some games, and some points for free.

I'm having trouble telling if this is a stab at CAG or just advertising.

If it is a stab at CAG, get over it.

Guys, this is NOT a stab at CAG in any way. We're good friends with Cheapy. Conrad used to post deals in his cblogs every Sunday before becoming an editor for the site. Plus, this feature was supposed to debut right after PAX but he never got the chance to get this going until now.

If we find a deal from Cheapy's site, we'll of course link back to him.

@TheRemedy: No, this is no way a comment on the recent controversy regarding CAG. I like what they do over there and have nothing but love for CheapyD

I used to do this in the CBlogs and had it on the backburner for the front page since before PAX. It's merely coincidence that I finally got around to starting it this week.

I went to BestBuy a couple days ago and they had a nice selection in the discount bin. I picked up Nights(Wii), Sega Superstar Tennis(PS3), Elite Beat Agents(DS) and Every Extend Extra(PSP) for $10-$15 each. It's worth looking for at your local stores if you're in the area.

This is a good article for you to bring from your Cblog to the front page. Nothing looking worth it to me except de Blob, so I'll probably grab that and Kirby Superstar tomorrow.
