Disaster: Day of Crisis release date confirmed photo

Disaster: Day of Crisis is one of those Wii games that have existed in theory before the console even launched, and like Sadness or Project HAMMER, looked destined to become vaporware. However, unlike those latter games, Disaster actually has an official release date -- scheduled to launch, in the UK at least, on October 24.

The game sees main character Raymond Bryce tackle all manner of natural disasters, ranging from tsunamis and earthquakes to volcanic eruptions and hurricanes. An interesting concept indeed, and one that has a lot of potential on the Wii.

However, this game has been nothing but a quiet concept for two years, and suddenly we have a release date that's just over a month away. What's going on? Has the developer simply managed to avoid press coverage while working diligently these past two years? One would like to think so, but this is the games industry, and it screams of a last-minute rush job.

Maybe I'm wrong, but there's something very bizarre indeed about this sudden release date.

Can't be worse than Disaster Movie, right?

This sounds exactly like what happened with Fatal Frame IV. There was NOTHING about it until approximately a week before its Japanese release. Then it released in Japan, and that was the first time people played it.

I expect Day of Crisis will be exactly the same thing. And, like FFIV, people will like the game, but no one will know anything about it!

Looking back a year or two from now, we'll all think "Hey, remember that thing that was like I Am Alive but not anywhere near as good? It was also about disasters and crises that all happened together in a compact period of time but it was just so bland and uninteresting that I have no idea what it was called. Oh yeah, Bad Day LA."

There a whole bunch of new screens randomly too. Maybe they were just keeping quite, but it's very odd.

Yay Europe you get something first! Now we don't have to listen to you bitch, and moan about being ignored. Well until the next time it happens, and then we'll never hear the end of it again.

Project HAMMER is not vaporware, it was officially scrapped awhile ago.

Nice to see Disaster: Day of Crisis hasn't dropped off the map completely yet. This is kind of weird though..

I believe that this title was delayed a couple of times because some major natural disasters in Asia occurred and Nintendo wanted to possibly avoid a whole slew of bad press. I have a feeling that we won't see this in the US until hurricane season ends considering that Gustav hit the Gulf Coast recently.

And I doubt Nintendo will advertise it anyway..

Nothing strange about it, since it is Nintendo's new policy.
They don't want to show the game until they feel it is ready to be shown.

Recent example:
Captain Rainbow was announced on July 9th, and released August 26th in Japan.

Brand new game announced and released in a matter of 7 weeks.

Don't be surprised if the next Zelda game is announced and released within a 3 month period.

flamesofchaos' explination kind of makes sense. Wasn't this shown at the wiis launch? Doesn't sound like a rush.

It's pretty odd that the game is rumoured vapourware for months and then suddenly is almost 2 months from release in the UK.

"No not really, am I complaining about this?"

Of course not. This is just a one-case scenario where you have to wait a little for a possibly mediocre game. If you had to wait 3-6 months (or couple of years ago, up to a year) for games from your favourite franchises, then you'd definetly complain!

"but just remember this the next time we get something first!"

Yeah, I know... But this isnt about getting something first. This is about not having to wait for ages.

I don't know what people see in this game. It's made by MonolithSoft and published by Nintendo. 2nd Party, I know.

This really doesn't sound (or look) like anything special.

I guess Wii owners will go out of their way to like anything since they're so starved, Animal Crossing, Wii Music and all.

As someone said above this is some strange new policy of nintendo. They basicly don't talk about most games until they are ready to be released wich is strange.... but they did the same with Fatal Frame IV, Wario Land Shake IT and Captain Rainbow.

This game for what i reed is basicicly a cheesy (probably fun?) script that is divided on hourly sections and also full of fetchquest like gta or okami... i don't know wich one is gonna be like. Because it has a main story mode and you can come back after you played the game and do some mor stuff...

Lets see how good or crappy it gets...

@AKK

That's exactly what I thought about, too. And Fatal Frame got really good reviews, too...

God, I want this game. Please let this be real, and please let it be good...
