Oh hey, it's a new trailer for DiRT: Showdown, the next entry to the long running rally series from Codemasters. After DiRT 3 ruffled some feathers with it's diminished focus on pure rally racing, Codemasters decided to split the Gymkhana portion off of the main series and give it it's own place to shine along with some additions.
The damage modeling looks fairly impressive, and Casey Baker seemed to like it quite a bit after some hands on time last month. Surprisingly, it's set for a full retail release. One might have expected a reduced price for what could be considered a spin-off, but apparently they're giving this one the full treatment.
This looks like it shall be a suitable replacement for Flatout 2's exceptional destructive racing. Flatout 3 was a such a travesty. Looking forward to this one.
Excuse me Ruiner9? The first Flatout was the only good one, after that, the cars just became so grippy and arcady that there was no sense of challenge in terms of car control.
I do love me a demo derby game, and the dirt series certainly has the damage model to do one, but this looks like it's going to be too arcady. I'm not asking for sim handling here, but I should have to put some effort into controlling the car. I'll be driving a beater on loose dirt surfaces, that SHOULD oversteer and whatnot.
Codemasters marketing goon: 'Let's use exactly the same music for our trailer that was used in the trailer for Trackmania 2: Canyon, no-one will ever find out'.
