DiRT 2 demands DX11, Intel Core i7 for maximum sexiness photo

Now DiRT 2 may not be the prettiest racing game ever, but it's quite the sight to behold. And with the PC version of the off-road racer supporting DirectX 11, it's going to be even more stunning.

If you or someone you know has a PC capable of handling DiRT 2 at the highest possible settings, you can expect the logical opposite of the Nazi face melting scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark to ensue. I know it's hard to envision, but you can do it.

As spotted by Shacknews, the PC requirements are officially out:

Recommended Specifications: Enhanced for DirectX 11
OS - Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
Processor - Intel Core i7 or AMD Phenom II
Memory - 3GB
HD Space - 10GB
Video Card - ATi Radeon HD 5700 Series

Minimum Specifications:
OS - Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
Processor - Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz or AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Memory - 1GB (2Gb for Windows Vista)
HD Space - 10GB
Video Card - ATI Radeon X1500 or NVIDIA GeForce 6800

It's also worth noting this version utilizes Games for Windows LIVE. If you haven't already, go seek out and play DiRT 2, even if you can only do so on a console.

You say Games for Windows Live like it's a good thing.

Anyway, I wish I cared about this game so I could support them taking some extra time on the PC version and adding features, by my racing game enjoyment is limited to the purest of the arcade.

Also, I am an nVidia fanboy and their DX11 stuff ain't even out yet.

Is windows live a good thing? my friend barely uses steam unless its for tf2 updates . Personally I love steam so is their any downside to using GFW, do they have drm, achievements?

Windows Live is an attempt to bring the Xbox frontend to PC, but it doesn't work well. It causes some games to crash, on some computers, the overlay shows up all bright, etc.. but those aren't the real problems. The real problem is that every fucking patch or update has to go through MS certification, which takes fucking ages. Red Faction Guerrilla for PC has some game breaking issues, Volition made a patch that fixes them on OCTOBER 9, and are STILL waiting for MS to approve the patch.

On topic, you don't need an i7 to run this on max settings, i5 processors are better and handling games, and any high-end Core 2 Quad will do just as well. This game will obviously have a "Best on Intel" logo when starting up, and this is just a marketing move to sell i7 processors.

Sweet, GWL doesn't sound that bad, probably will get Fallout 3, Hellgate London and Crysis.

wow thats a big jump between the minimum and the recommended. IS this the first dx11 game?

A new i7 system isnt that expensive either. cpu, ram, and processor would be in the $500 - $600 rang, but I haven't priced it in a little while.

The 5770 and 5750 are pretty cheap.

Question is what resolution are they suggesting to run. Because as we know ALL PC gaming graphic variables are based around resolution. Running this at 1650 x 1080 i can't see being that difficult. I do some research.

GfWL is a hidden resource leach and a program that matches the definition of Malware (but so is Steam, yet people accept it willingly). BTW, Hellgate London English servers have been dead since the end of January (I'm not sure if you can still play it on the Korean servers or not...?)

Wait, you can use Windows XP to get the Direct X11 enhancements?

@ evergreen

My understanding is that you need Windows 7.

@Locke - not entirely true, DirectX 11 is supported both on 7 and Vista.

Got my DX11 card coming in for my birthday, they're pretty cheap for such high-performing cards, and use less power and throw off less heat/noise to boot!

Also of note: most of the current Radeon DX11 cards come with this game for free - mine does I know. Good times
