So, some footage was revealed earlier that leaked the first ever full gameplay of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. I don't know about anybody else, but it looked pretty damn swanky to me. However, there was one thing that truly set my heart at ease about the game, more than any video. Xbox Live Marketplace has revealed something very important. It's revealed the developer, and it's not Sonic Team!
Dimps, in case you did not know, has made several Sonic games in the past under the name of Sonic Team. However, unlike Sonic Team, Dimps is a terrific developer. It created the last truly brilliant Sonic game, Sonic Advance, and also developed the Rush titles, along with the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed that is believed by many to be a far superior offering. Dimps also co-developed the console version of Street Fighter IV.
I was holding out hope that Dimps would be named as the developer, as this studio truly knows its stuff and understands Sonic the Hedgehog. For any Sonic fan, this is absolutely fantastic news and I'm positively thrilled to hear it. Sonic 4 just got a whole let better for me.
Xbox Live Marketplace [Thanks, Plufim]

Best news I've heard all day. THANK YOU SEGA!

Still, this is good news, because Sonic Team and I have not gotten along since 2001.
It did indeed. I knew I forgot to mention something.
Jon B:
Like I said in the article, Dimps develops Sonic games under the name of Sonic Team. It always says Sonic Team in the opening credits, regardless of who is doing it.
Ah, I overlooked that bit.
Probably because I'm equally as excited as you are about the footage, heh.
Sonic Advance 2 and 3 responded to criticism from stupid people who said Sonic Advance was "too slow." However, Dimps has at least demonstrated that, when it lets itself, it understands Sonic games better than Sonic Team does.
The recently revealed footage seems to show that Dimps has ignored the "too slow" crowd and is sticking with proper level design instead of speed. I am pretty happy with that.
I did have an image to illustrate why I'm being cautious, but I lost it. :(
Simply put, the Sonic fanbase is incredibly rabid, I've seen people fake stuff like this before.
I just want it to be good.... :(
Did anyone else notice that sonic doesn't look fast enough? I think it was the guy playing it though.
Have faith Jonny! All your dreams will come true with a little faith!
Well, I certainly hope that's the case. The video instill some confidence in me that it'll play like the old-school games.
Sonic Advance - Good. But not great. Something was missing. The classic physics were a little off, making Sonic more sluggish than he should be. Plus, the level design was empty and/or cheap in spots, whether not offering any incentive to explore via unique objects and clusters of hidden video monitors, or placing all of Angel Island over a bottomless pit.
Sonic Advance 2 - Wrong. Those who have carefully examined the early Sonic the Hedgehog games know that Sonic is only ostensibly about speed. Within each entry in the Genesis trilogy lies a tricky and inventive platformer, its strength in level design and object interaction while wearing the guise of speed to make it appear unique. When Sonic started buying into his own hype though, games like this one appeared.
Sonic Advance 3 - Complete Waste. This game had a LOT of awesome new features. But the levels were still designed to force players along in a hurry, so all these new features went to waste and were ultimately worthless. What kind of heartless game gives players lots of neat toys and then forbids their use anyway? (*coughmegamanzerocough*)
Sonic Rush - On To Something. Now, the level design was still bad with how it featured many cheap deaths, but it almost had me believing that a fast Sonic game can actually work. Almost. The boost and stunt system was actually pretty well done, but in practice it can only provide a game that's merely good, not great.
In short, the good games Dimps has made so far have been merely alright, and even having Jim's explanation for Advance 2 & 3 does not excuse Dimps' stupidity for pursuing those ideas in the first place. Judging by the first gameplay video leaked, it looks like it'll be as good as Sonic Advance. We can expect classic Sonic gameplay in disappointingly empty levels, making for a decent start. But the next episode had better be huge.
Read Jim's first comment.
maybe they should read other peoples' comments before leaving one of their own. tards.
ok... NOW the hype around sonic 4 makes sense
you can expect piles of shit from sonic team, but dimps is a different story...
really, sega should just get rid of sonic team and make dimps the main team... they actually know what the hell they are doing
what
what
what
what
what
WHAT.
Unleashed Wii was awful. It felt like a one-player racer than it did a platformer, let alone a Sonic game.
Unleashed 360/PS3, however, was the shit. The day stages felt like the Sonic Adventures of days past, and the sidescroller segments of said stages felt like Sonic Rush.
Oh well, this is a sidescroller. No worries there.
Eh?
"It created the last truly brilliant Sonic game, Sonic Advance."
SUCCESSFULLY EPIC. Now I can be entertained. COME OUT ALREADY, DAMMIT!!
