Digital Extremes would 'love' Warframe on Xbox One

Dependent on Microsoft's self-publishing policy

Digital Extremes' Warframe feels like a natural fit for consoles in scope and execution despite being a free-to-play title. The third-person shooter is already confirmed as a launch game for PlayStation 4, but what about Xbox One? The answer provided by VP of publishing Meridith Braun to OXM is about what you would expect, unfortunately.

"We would love to see Warframe on Xbox One, the ball is in Microsoft's court with regards to allowing titles on their system that come from an independent developer and not an established publisher," she said. It's regrettable that, of all the factors that could hold back a game from seeing a multiplatform release, it ends up being something like this.

I'm anxious to see how this pans out and if Microsoft will budge at all on the self-publishing issue as more notable games skip the platform under the current system.

Warframe has just released on the Xbox One, and it's undergone some changes since it launched -- mostly good changes, meant to add more content to the game in the form of items and missions. It still fails in all of the same areas however, mostly its inability to craft an interesting world, and the free-to-play scheme that encourages far too much grinding.
I had played a bit of Warframe on PC to see what it was about, thought it was merely okay, and moved on not much later, as you do. Digital Extremes' free-to-play cooperative action game has since come to PlayStation 4 -- and...

War has framed. Or something. Man, these names are stupid. Fine. At least this one has character designs that look like aquatic Evangelion monsters. Warframe, from Digital Extremes (The Darkness II, Star Trek: The Video Game...

When developer diaries are bad, they can be horrendously awful. This one, for Digital Extremes' Warframe, is actually quite nice. Rather than have canned, PR-fueled talking points, they got some people working on the game to...
Previously, Digital Extremes offered us a teaser for its four-player, cooperative, third-person shooter that so happens to be free to play. It's called Warframe, which isn't a terribly exciting name, but I'm looking forward ...
