When Seung Hui Cho went on his murderous killing spree at Virginia Tech, one man got giddy with perverse, possibly erotic, excitement. It's because this latest insanity meant that he could be on television again. That man, of course, was Jack Thompson, who instantly decided to implicate violent videogames as a contributing factor to Seung Hui Chode's psychotic actions. Well, unless Sonic The Hedgehog is suddenly a game about being an emo Korean with too many guns and not enough girlfriends, I think it's safe to rule out what we all ruled out about three seconds after Hui 'society rapes my heart, I'mma listen to Linkin Park now' Cho fired his first bullet.

Yes, a report has today come out to slam a final nail into the coffin of that little attempt to demonize games and further one's own personal agenda on the cold backs of dead students, as it was revealed that the most violent game Seung ever played was Sonic and there's no reason, valid or otherwise, to implicate videogames at all in his rampage. Of course, even if he did play violent games, we'd all know that still proved nothing, but the fact that no war games, crime games or any truly violent titles were found in his possession is a nice little slap in the face to the reactionaries who were ready to pin the blame on something other than the man holding the gun.

Must try harder, Jacky boy. Now we see what happens when we presume, don't we? Bloody pillock.

I mean at least if your going to pick up the whole OMG THAT THERES A MURDER SIMULATOR then hit Americas Army because that game is actually adapted from a real training game. He should've lost all credibility in that news interview (not counting his other crap) when he called the guy an "idiot" and "jackass". So freaking unprofessional. And then he says that Cho used CS when this info says otherwise. Wow. JUST wow.

Not only was Jack wrong, but he was allowed to speak on SEVERAL different news programs spouting his now blatant lies, without any evidence whatsoever that Counterstrike was involved. Unbelievable.

jack thompson is a grade A jerk. what did videogames ever do to him?

just because youre mad doesent mean you have to ruin it for everyone!

me as a prime example. i am a 16 year old...teen? lol.

i have played violent videogames since ive been 4. look at me now. 3.5 grade point average student with lots of friends that play games too. ex football player too. does that make me a psychotic killing machine? no.

MGS FTW! xD

i want on THAT crazy train, then i can connect the dots too.

world war two only exists because we need ideas for video games, i mean look at the similarities, world war two happened in 1939-45 most world war two games are set in that time. they used guns in world war two, those guns exist in video games. Clearly world war two was the video games fault, not simply because an insane over thinking political genius took over the country.

Jack's gone and done it again! He takes a shooting and randomly uses it an excuse to say that videogames are bad.

I love how he looked really nervous at the start of the interview and tried to hide it.

@Dunned:
The Washington Post made a single comment in an online article about high school classmates saying he played Counter-Strike. It was redacted from later editions when they realized that a) High school was at least 4 years ago for him and b) the fact that he was friggin crazy was more likely the cause of the VTech tragedy than a video game. Thompson has apparently seen the redaction as evidence bolstering an assumption he made before we had any idea who the shooter even was.

Ok. If you hate rants, do NOT hear me. What the hell does Jack tompson think he is? Why can he be declared sane and STILL blames video games. He lied about him playing Counter-Strike: Source just to get support for his cause. He says he's payed to "connect the dots". Yet he fails to put up a valid point. He blamed the video game AND movie Doom. He IS a school shooting chaser. Teenagers just can't be fucking crazy anymore.

There always is a one or two word reason to why anyone does anything with him. He just says whatever he wants no matter how unpopular it is. He focuses on 2 or 3 games and blames them for corrupting todays youth to do bad things. They get "trained" on a keyboard and mouse to fire a several pound gun with recoil and kill many people with it. So let me get this straight......If I play Counter-strike and I do.....that trains me to kill? That's like playing Phoenix Wright and becoming a great lawyer. Or playing Tony Hawk and getting good at skateboarding.

Here's the rundownh tompson. I'm tired of this bullshit you feed people about breeding criminals that massacre with games. The army uses games to get reaction time up. If they want to fire an M-16 better, they go to the range and interact WITH A REAL GUN! Gamers who keyboard or controller can't get skill with a gun just by watching one fire. The Glock 18(featured in Counter-Strike Source as the T starting pistol) weighs 21.87 oz. A keyboard weighs 1KG Link to a website

Ah damn it! I didn't finish! Hit post by mistake. Anyway, a Glock used in Counter Strike weighs more then a keyboard. Considering the keyboard also cannot be picked up and moved around to improve aim also casts a nail in your coffin Jack Thompson. Even with the mouse, you will NEVER get close to breaking the real gun weight. Not in a million years. So the whole idea of "training" off of a game is bullocks and you know it. Secondly, even if the gamer trains off of this, where are they going to develop any real useable skill in real life(besides hand eye coordination) that could help them use a gun? Columbine, they practiced with the guns before they did their deed. They played Counter-strike. Yet they were crazy and the video games loaded all those guns and pulled the triggers? NO! A controller controlled virtual simulation will not help you hit real people with real guns. It just is yet another attempt to launch your cause to stop all games from being made.

Now go play some brain age and comment on this when you can put up a valid argument.

On another note, I'm actually thinking of writing a book about the subject because I am so fed up of the lack of any rational debate on the issue.
