If taken at face value, a casual Tweet from Blizzard community manager "Bashiok" has confirmed a Diablo III console release. Of course, the very casual nature of the confirmation makes it a little puzzling.
Bashiok was responding to a fan, who asked if he could confirm a console port. The community man happily obliged, stating: "Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project."
Blizzard has in the past confirmed that it's "looking into" a console port, which may be what Bashiok was intending to say. Still, saying "Yup" when asked to confirm a definite console release is a bit more concrete than that.
Whether this is a case of bad communication or an actual confirmation is yet to be seen, but people are already running with the latter. That means it's most likely going to be the former.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Blizzard could easily not include that feature in the console version, but then there'd probably be outrage at the blatant political injustice.
Anything else good on Twitter, Jimbo?
Blizzard is pretty fickle about consoles, even though Diablo III would totally work given how much action its genre has seen in the last decade on consoles and handhelds.
@article: I hope this is true. Arpgs and controllers are a match made in heaven imo. Moving your character rather than waypointing them, feels better imo.
Online-only connection for single player.
Auction houses.
Those are a couple things keeping me from wanting Diablo III right now, neither are needed.
I think it's a great move.

Play hardcore, no auction houses.
If I were really as hardpressed as every one else seems to be about playing Diablo 3 offline by myself then I would just pirate the damn game, I really don't think Blizz will care.
Please make it happen!
As: "Will the console port be released concurrently with the PC version?"
Warcraft II was ported to the PlayStation and the Saturn 2 years after its PC release. Did anyone give two shits about that? Would anyone care about Diablo III on the console 2 years after its PC debut?
This!
At this point all we know is that a team is at Blizzard HQ working on a possible console port for the future. It most likely won't launch anywhere near the PC version - it'll probably be after they've saturated the PC market.
I remember Blizzard saying they wanted a Diablo on consoles, that it just probably wouldn't be Diablo III - so, like a spin-off game.
Me still nope, i want my mods and other odds and ends i have no interest in playing diablo with anyone else unless i am at a lan party.
You mean Battle net? The thing you always had to use for any Diablo game?
If you're talking SP, who played Diablo SP? The only people I know who did it just used trainers and hacks for fun.
Diablo 1 was fun over modems :D
They definitely announced that they had people looking into it, so that may be what this is.
I've played Diablo 2 SP without online. I don't see a point with playing with other people online for the single player portion of the game. I wanted to enjoy by myself, that's why I'm upset Blizzard didn't leave the option open for people like me, who play the game offline (I'm not much of a multiplayer fan).
It is Blizzard's game, and they can do what they want with it. I just hope the console version will allow online\offline option.
See, I would just play it on Bnet, but play it single player - I used to do that often in D2. Just make a passworded game and play online by myself.
It seems like you're prepared to miss out on the game for potentially a few years because of principle (if you have an online connection). Personally, it doesn't bother me enough to wait for a possible console version, but everyone is different, and I hope they patch out the "always on" DRM for people like you in the future.
Sorry to break your heart, but there will be no mods, and I'm pretty sure there won't be any LAN. Or so Blizzard has said.
