DICE: There's a market for Mirror's Edge 2 photo

Parkour platformer, Mirror's Edge, might have a shot at getting a sequel. DICE producer Patrick Liu believes that people are ready for a second game. The original was a critical success, but unfortunately not a commercial one. However, Liu seems confident that a sequel is viable.

We see that there's a huge fan following, it's almost like a cult! And we know what strengths we had, and what weaknesses we had in that game. If we were to release a new game, we'd know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience. So I definitely think there's a market there.

The stylish dystopia and exciting parkour sequences of the original endeared it to me, but the combat felt tacked on. It was a game with a lot of potential and really deserves another chance. There were reports of a sequel being in the works up until February this year, but EA postponed it indefinitely. EA hasn't indicated it's changed it's mind, despite seeing the franchise as important.

Mirror's Edge is one of my favorite games this generation. I love the clean sterility of the game's atmosphere, none of that gritty dirt covered vibe, or even the typical "everything is covered in a thin layer of oil" shine that I associate with the Unreal Engine.

Not to mention "Still Alive", the theme song, is one of the most amazingly on-point video game songs since Yamaoka took Silent Hill 4 to the house. I still get goosebumps watching the trailer with that song playing in it.

Mirror's Edge happened when people believed EA was turning over a new leaf. Then EA went back to the EA we all know and disliked and started with the online passes and "incentive content."

This game would most certainly subject to that sort of thing, it won't happen without any of it, I'm afraid.

Welcome to the "I'm altering the deal, pray I don't alter it any further" era of EA.

Agreed. Mirror's Edge managed to have a unique aesthetic that you can't quite put your finger on and the main theme is easily some of this gen's best music.

There's a huge market for a game that didn't sell very well? What the hell kind of twisted logic is that? There are more fans of Earthbound than Mirror's Edge.

The music and art direction made this game one of my favourites of this generation. I also liked the setting and story although I wish they went into it a little more. The gameplay did get annoying at times, however. Failing those time trials over and over lead to much rage. :D

The soundtrack is a great listen if you're into ambient electronica.

If they believe that there wasn't enough shooting in the original, then please leave the franchise dead.

"how to reach a broader audience" makes me worry they'll say "it's the combat we need to improve! Lose the platforming, we need to make this a full first-person shooter, nobody is making those these days!".

BUt yeah, no shit that there's a market for ME2, people have only been begging for a second game for what, three years solid now?

I might forgive EA for releasing a still-born Dragon Age II if they make a solid Mirror's Edge 2. That game had potential.

I know this sounds crazy But I want mutliplayer in the next mirrors edge! Someone gets to be a swat officer with guns and big armor but they are slow and then have to kill a runner. It seems like it would work and be a good dynamic. That or a capture the flag type gameplay with two or three runners. or co-op.You know how they always talked about runners meeting with you at a certain place It would be interesting to have two runners bothhaving cops onthere tails have to meetit would make for some suspense trying to wait or having to tack an alt route to get to the point at the same time.

@jimmyx, you would have been, what, 9 when it came out? Go back to GoW.

Hopefully Mirror's Edge 2 would improve the combat - not the shooting, but the fast, unarmed attacks. It could be fairly frustrating at times.

Having played the Assassin's Creed series since playing Mirror's Edge, I'm not sure I'd enjoy first person parkour as much as third person though.

Jimmyx is one of the most amazing parodies ever.
His comments always bring a smile to my face.

I think the one thing i really wanted from mirrors edge was an open world. It was fun to platform around, but it just felt like a giant corridor. I'd much rather have a city to run around in; memorizing pathways, delivering packages for side missions, etc.

I hate when the devs try to hit a broader audience. They should just fix the issues, however minor they were in the original, and release a newer better game with a good narrative. Don't try to cram in multiplayer, and don't try to change what was awesome about the original. The cult following happened because the good aspects of the game were already good.

But instead we've decided to sink our time and money into a game that was solely made to compete with Call of Duty and its half-assed/unfinished beta.

EA is really using DICE to its full potential.

Damn right there's a market for this game!! I will buy a copy for both my consoles if a sequel is made.

It wasn't perfect, but is still one of my favorite games and I still go back just to re-run those trials.

I LOVE Mirror's Edge. If they put out a sequel I will buy it in a heartbeat! But not on Origin... I will not buy things on Origin unless they offer some kind of prepurchase discount or benefits. Otherwise, whats the point? You're paying them extra money just because they don't want to compete with retailers... eff that.

Really like the original. I just hope that if a sequel is made, that some of the brightness is turned down. Sometimes it was plain over powering and you couldn't see where you were going.

If they can make the story better and make the boss fights better as, say, a parkour challenge to get to an out of the way room with the stage's only gun, then I'd buy a sequel.

They really need to add a stealth option if they make another. Being forced to fight and blowing away people with a machine gun didn't really fit in with her character.
