I know it's bad form to go on too much about prior events in the beginning of a post, so go read up on the whole "mapathy" thing here if you haven't. There. That was painless enough.
In a sorta hilarious move, DICE has made a not-so-subtle joke at Modern Warfare 2's expense. On the Battlefield blog, they have an article entitled "How to avoid 'mapathy' without paying!" You see, the second map pack for VIP Bad Company 2 members is going out the same day as MW2's DLC -- and it's free.
DICE says this new content "helps avoid segmenting the community," and "plays a vital part in making sure you, the players get proper value for the money you’ve invested."
Of course, if Infinity Ward wanted to, the studio could pretty easily come out and say A) the BC2 DLC -- Arica Harbor for Conquest mode and Laguna Presa for Rush mode -- is essentially on-the-disc maps re-purposed for new modes, and B) "hell, at least we can keep our game up and running."
I love your latest game DICE, really I do, but the (somewhat expected) server-side stuff that's cropped up recently is getting damned annoying.

I got bored of mw2's monotonous, broken gameplay before mapathy set in and traded it in.
Battlefield bad company 2 runs smooth as buttery silk on the psn.
So ... in other words.. it works? Well, that's good. Not really sure what all the adjectives are for, though.
Now if you said "The gameplay is smooth like buttery silk on the psn" that'd be something I could get behind and say, "fuck ya!" to. But of course, I'd have to say "Unfortunately the gameplay on PC is as smooth as buttery silk rubbed in vasoline", but that's for another conversation.
FFXIII for Ps3, BC2 for PC.. I'm in a big of gaming heaven here atm.
BF:BC2's map packs are full of fail. :(
What I don't understand is the console FPS game's concept of "you can't play this mode on this map" - which is why I mostly play FPS games on PCs with dedicated servers.
In dedicated games, there's no such thing as "you can't play this mode on this map". You just play whatever the hell you want.
The game does run buttery smooth--when it's not locking up, or hitting select when spotting doesn't work or my team can hear me but I can't hear them unless I've just hopped out of an exploding tank, or the servers crashing and tossing you out of a game you just had an awesome round in and lose your 20 kills and the stats that go with it.
The crash is so bad that if you play a match continuously--that is, multiple rounds on different maps without exiting out to try a different mode or find a different match--you lose ALL those matches stats, and the perks you may have unlocked in the process.
This is fact. I myself experienced this when my match crashed out and I had earned the motion sensor for my underused recon class. It was there the following match--and I used it, but when the game collapsed and I started up a new one, the game said I still didn't have enough points yet to unlock it.
The whole exclusive mode thing was a total bummer, but at least that's only temporary.
Also, I'm not talking about lag when I say server-side issues. I'm talking about literally not being able to connect to anything related to multiplayer because the EA Network thing is down.
Dice could say though "at least we created new maps and not give people old ones :P".
Fact of the matter is Mw2 wasn't optimized for the pc for shit. Hell i run BFBC2 with 40-60 FPS while as MW2 will run at 90, and Battlefield still plays better and smoother.
If you purchase new.
Though I am super fuckin' pissed at whoever had the genius idea to make your scream shake violently whenever there was an explosion within 50 feet of you. I often find myself shooting at a guy and having my screen shake all over hell and dying because my aim fucked itself up.
Lame. But still a good game.
I've played many many hours on psn and haven't seen a single problem, apart from the store not working.
And that really doesn't bother me at all.
Seriously, not a single blip of lag, not a single disconnect nothing. Just sweet sweet battlefield action.
Suppose that's what you get for paying extra for psn... Wait, what?
I love the Africa Harbor map... looking forward to that one being in the other modes.
Agreed about the BF servers - they are a FU**ING JOKE! EA are complete smacktard when it comes to a game launch. It's nothing new. Any BF players from previous launches will agree, they ALWAYS F it up.

the violent shaking doesn't actually fuck your aim -- just your perspective. If you have your crosshairs on someone, just keep firing through the shaking and you'll score the kill.
Wasn't Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer rough for the first few months?
I theorize that people will stop playing BC2 like they did with the first and we'll be back to the same old Call of Duty versus Halo shit flinging fights.
Lets hope not. CallOfDuty & Halo are very bland in comparison.

Yea, I was just playing and I realized that. Still, the shaking isn't a plus. Hitting a moving target is pretty hard and the shaking is just so excessive, what with everyone and their mom playing snipers for mortar strikes.

Oh, "but EA manage the BC2 servers" - This shouldn't matter a shit. You PAY to play online and you can't play online properly. If MS is charging you for EA's service, it's MS's duty to ensure that fucking service works!

I'm laughing my ass off that my FREE PSN can handle this game perfectly while they PAID FOR LIVE is falling over. Save the store issue, the ACTUAL GAME works fucking Flawlessly and is tremendous fun. I'm literally in a game within seconds of hitting go, never get disconnected, never see any lag, never had a single problem, and I've been playing almost everyday since launch.
If you can't get onto the BC2 servers, go play MAG for a while... wait, what?
Shit, sorry, suppose you're stuck with CoD. Unlucky guys.
