Can't wait to try out Torchlight II as well -- what a novel concept!
ERGO - DOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED
This is not a good, AT ALL. I might be a pessimist but after Origin/EA, Ubisoft and now Blizzard it seems you can get away with treating consumers as shit.

To be fair, it's Blizzard's second always-on game (after Starcraft 2). Also, if you count the WoW releases, Blizzard hasn't released a game that could be played offline since Warcraft 3.
I do think this will encourage other companies to try it, but I think, on the whole, only Blizzard can really get away with this. Other games depend on hardcore gamers more because we're the only people who even realize they exist.
I can play it for maybe 30-40 minutes at a time during my lunch break at work but I still can't install it on my home PC. It fails every time I try to run setup and I've tried every fix I can find.
@Felix: So why was it ok when Starcraft 2 did it 2 years ago? Shouldn't you be blaming everyone who purchased that instead?
Im sorry you are so upset, But to counter your post I have played diablo 3 for over 32 hours.
32 fucking hours.
Blizzard needs to take that shit down more often, im a fucken adult, i have shit i HAVE to do, which i cant because DIABLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Probably and hopefully damn well. There is no reason why both these games can't do well even if they're in the same genre. If you ever watched the retrospect video Blizzard released (last year I think?) you'd see that they were just like the Torchlight guys once. Few and inexperienced but with great ideas. It will be interesting to see where Runic Games are in 10-20 years. Hopefully still making great games.
Thats not true at all.
In fact blizzard allows you to switch which region you connect to, So if you see that the american servers are down, and you are just DYING to play, Roll a character on the Eu servers.
Really though i have not seen all regions down at the same time, so the likely hood that all 6.3 million users cant play is slim.
Minecraft 360 costs 1600 points. Price hike of a 3rd. Broke records.
Massive incoming price hikes confirmed. Cut back functionality and disgusting DRM for the win.
"Gamers these days would rather eat shit then go hungry" - Jin Sterling.
Diablo 3 is a high quality product which has a considerable black spot in the form of this DRM. People are enjoying this game a lot and are dealing with the so they can enjoy it. Neither Blizzard, Activision or any other publisher has casually ignored the criticism directed at the DRM and I'm confident they won't start applying it willy nilly. After all, when they can just license Steam's DRM that no one complains about or just not bother completely and still sell a quality product (Witcher II, though as I haven't played it I can't say for it's quality), why would they put a lot of work into a system that forces the player to log on and always be online and thus get a lot of aggravation from their community?
But you know gamers, give them something shiny and slap a brand name on it and they'll part with their money quicker then whores part with underwear.
Even crowds that flock to places like dtoid and claim to be sophisticated and savvy and above all that shit. The fuck they are. They're just as easily swayed as the cod crowd, just a different flavour juice to go with their bullshit.
And given these figures, everything I just said is provable.
I'm tired of people acting like they are some freedom fighter against the big evil corporation by hating on Diablo. People are having fun playing it, so let them play in peace.
I'm tired of people who haven't played it complaining about connections to a game they don't even own. Since the launch, I've had a total of 5 minutes of connection issues. That's 5 minutes out of 30 hours.
Mainly I'm just tired.
Apparently you missed the part where Jim has a high lvl Demon Hunter. Guess he likes eating shit too :p
Only about 4 people from the D2 team work on Torchlight and Torchlight 2. The rest are all over the place. A few are still at Blizzard.
Anyone worried that Diablo 3's success has exposed just how stupid we are as consumers, and the landscape will change for the worse as a result of it, fret not! The software market is fucking contracting violently, and publishers are fast slashing production to combat their own rising costs!
Success of one popular game? Woop! Let's all argue what it means for the future that this one game that everyone knew would sell sold well, and completely ignore the fact that the industry buckling under its own weight for the first 5.5 months of this year. Diablo's success doesn't mean jack shit next to the bigger fish in the frying pan.
I guess it's just the other people that play the wrong things.

Unrelated - I think its kinda funny that the people who whine that they cant play their game thanks to the DRM are also bragging about their mid 50's level character.
Well there are SOME people who haven't had a problem with it. They are overly smug about the fact their car didn't need to be recalled and others do, but they are there.
Man I want to play a barb so badly before it gets nerfed. Sigh.
Also, cocks.
