Devs respond to PS3 Ghostbusters controversy, make it worse photo

The ridiculous fanboy wars spilled over into multiplatform territory recently when the PS3 version of Terminal Reality's Ghostbusters was said to run at a lower resolution to the Xbox 360 version. While normal human beings wouldn't really care, controversy happened and now Terminal Reality has issued a statement to counter the claims of inferiority, invardently making the problem sound worse.

"For the record, the PS3 version [of Ghostbusters] is softer due to the 'quincunx' antialiasing filter and the fact we render at about 75% the resolution of the 360 version," explains the studio. "So you cannot directly compare a screen shot of one to the other unless you scale them properly. The PS3 does have less available RAM than the 360 - but we managed to squeeze 3 out of 4 textures as full size on the PS3."

Wow ... they kind of made the PS3 version seem even more inferior. I doubt this will stop the Internet arguments over this game, but if you have both a 360 and PS3 and want the better game, it appears as if Terminal Reality has made the decision for you. Or you could just go for the Wii version. It looks worse than the others, but at least you'll get to feel like you're holding a Proton gun.

What's funny is that you guys are being console fanvoys here when it really boils down in this case, that terminal reality did a shitty job of optimizing the game for the PS3. I'm bummed because I wanted to get it on the ps3, but I went ahead and got it on 360 anyway.

So stop the console whining and blame the developer for doing a shitty job. If they really cared, they wouldve fixed it. I can look at how amazing PS3 games can look and it's obvious that TR is full of their own shit because it's all they have. Had they the skills and desire to fix it, they shouldve. But they didn't so get over it and voice your complaints with them.

@ MetalRufflez

quincunx is simply a sample pattern for antialiasing used in older nvidia graphics cards. like the one in the PS3.

it should be obvious to anyone with a decent knowledge of PC graphics hardware that the 360 has a better graphics chip, which is why it doesn't surprise me when 360 games look better than PS3 games.

oh, and just to add insult to butthurt, i'll be playing this on my PC which eats PS3's for breakfast and wipes it's ass on 360s.

My DS has better graphics than all your 360's and PS3's hardware combined, I should know.

@Kyosji

I agree. The real travesty with this game is the nerfed version the PC received. I'm not going to support a developer that axes important components of a game and ships it as a shitty console port. So maybe I'll download it. I still won't play it, but that copy sitting on my hard-drive will show them! Well, maybe not, but at the end of the day I know I'd take boinked texturing over no multiplayer.

Its funny when developers produce an ugly game and then say they had to squeeze what they got out of the hardware when there are much better looking games on said hardware. They should probably realize how that sounds before they say it.

Terminal reality dug themselves a big hole with this statement. It would have been much better just saying "My bad", instead of a comment that has made PS3 fanboys outrage.
I'm getting this game on my PS3, because it's exclusive over in the UK. I doubt I'll even notice the framerate slow downs etc.
Terminal Reality, do a better job porting over to the PS3 next time. Don't be like Valve.

"I'm guessing they couldn't be bothered to learn how to use the PS3 hardware properly!?"

Actually, in side-by-side comparrisons, the 360 almost always edges out the PS3. While the PS3 is, technically, a stronger platform, it also happens to have a tonne more bottlenecks.

I've worked on the PSP, Wii, 360, PS3, PC, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and DS, and the worst platform by far is the PS3.

instead of making it on the 360 and then porting it to the ps3......they should make it on the ps3 first and get done with the hard part....the ps3......THEN port it to the 360...since it is apparently much easier to program for......the ps3 is hard to program for because it has custom gpu,cpu and all the other stuff......the 360....is based on PCs....so if they get over the ps3 first(and actually learn how to program for it right)it should be easier.....if they keep porting games from the 360 to the ps3....devs are never gonna learn how to properly program for the ps3
