In these final days of the IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign for point-and-click title Gods Will Be Watching, Deconstructeam has announced a partnership with Devolver Digital that will result in the publisher matching funds raised "to ensure [the game] reaches its full potential." The base funding goal has already been more than doubled, so they're on the right track.

The project started life as a prototype created during game jam Ludum Dare 26, which I only bring up because, more and more, I feel like some of the most conceptually interesting games come from these sleep-deprived events. Unfortunately, they aren't always fleshed out, but that's obviously not something we have to worry about here.

According to Devolver, "Gods Will Be Watching is being completely overhauled as Deconstructeam expands on the themes of despair, commitment, and sacrifice..." Don't expect a feel-good experience, in other words. Do expect a bit of a wait, though: this is releasing on PC and mobile devices in spring 2014.

So long, RNG: Gods Will Be Watching update adds new difficulty options

Reading through Alasdair's review of Gods Will Be Watching, I don't know if I could put myself through some of the game's horrors even once, much less multiple times due to failure. Deconstructeam's Mercy update should help. ...more

Review: Gods Will Be Watching

Gods Will Be Watching is a tough game. It puts the player in positions that they'd rather not be in and asks them to make difficult choices. In order to succeed at a mission, you may have to do unthinkable things, betray your morals, and become a monster just to survive a little longer. It's also tough in another sense: the game is bloody hard. more

Review: CounterSpy

CounterSpy's stylized Cold War re-imagining is on point. It looks good, with its spindly spy running, rolling, and leaping like a jumping spider. It sounds good, with its jazzy soundtrack that reminds of James Bond.  Unfortunately, the rest of it feels half-baked. more
