Devil May Cry 5 to have a 'Western touch' photo

It's been awhile since we've heard anything on the Devil May Cry front, and while Capcom isn't ready to announce anything just yet, Keiji Inafune is willing to drop a few hints.

In an interview with 3D Jeugos, Inafune admits that the series doesn't do particularly well in Western markets. With that in mind, it's likely that the games will be given a "Western touch" to make them more attractive to American and European players.

While it's not a confirmation that the game is in development, it's an interesting comment based on what we've previously heard. Rumors have been floating around for some time that Cambridge, England-based Ninja Theory has been working with Capcom on the upcoming sequel. The developer, who had worked on the PlayStation 3-exclusive Heavenly Sword, will ship Enslaved later this year.

Dead Rising, Mega Man, DMC, Onimusha… ¿Resident Evil 6? Charlamos con Keiji Inafune. [3D Juegos]

As long as "western touch" doesn't translate to "We fucked everything that made this series awesome and thought it'd be fun to pull another DMC2 scenario." then I'm willing to wait and see.

Maybe.

So basically it means 1 of 3 things-

1- It's going to be outsourced to another 3rd rate developer that just so happens to be in the west
2- BROWN 'N' BLOOM AND MUSCLES AND BLOOD EVERYWHERE, and other things Japanese people assume them crazy white people like.
3- both of the above.

Either way, I don't expect much.

Make it large and meaningful (DMC 4 was SHORT, and most of the time I didn't feel like I was accomplishing to much) and I'm sold... for the demo.

As strange as it is, I can't help thinking "spaghetti western" when I hear "western touch". If that does turn out to be the case, then the end result would be something like a middle ground between Devil May Cry and God Hand.

And if that is the case, I will gladly hand over my money right now.

What if it just meant Dante in chaps riding a demon horse with a fire lasso? Somehow not too hard to imagine...

Note to all: "Western" does not mean Gears of War. (And I'm pretty sure Capcom did fine with ridiculous muscles in RE5 without any outside help.)

So maybe DMC will be GOOD. This series is just...too Eastern. Eastern Games died in the 90's, Nippon. The Rise of the West is now.

Also, Steampunk would be cool too.

We really don't need a Devil May Cry that plays like God of War. Give a series a break rather than have it forced to conform to the western approach to stylish action games, thanks.

Eh, my expectations for this game just went into the cellar...

Even though I agree they have a lot to improve upon after DMC4, none of that game's flaws had anything to do with it not being 'Western' enough.

I wouldn't want the art style to change, that's for sure. I just want to see more Japanese developers pick up on the design conventions that have advance in the west, but have yet to pick up in japan (in terms of accessibility, usability, and over all quality levels).

And if you're a Japanese developer/publisher, I can help you out if you're hiring. ;)

When I think of the difference between DMC as it was and modern, western games, I imagine a DMC with more flow between chapters instead of fullstop-results screen, a pause-accessible upgrade menu instead of needing to wait until the end of a chapter, and more "grounded" ridiculousness and less "is the scene over yet?" surfing on a missile. And maybe ditch the fixed camera while they're at it.

Sort of excited for this, mostly because it's a game I'll play that isn't a first-person shooter.

Every time Inafune opens his mouth, I lose more and more respect for him, and it's now reached a point bordering on loathing.

Devil May Cry is a great series as it is, and it doesn't need changing. Noone wants it to. And if they do try to 'Westernize' it, then I won't go near it. Capcom is a broken shell of what it once was and Inafune has lead it's ruin.

Rammstein - If you actually believe what you say, then you really are ignorant/thick.

Anyway, the next DMC should be trying as damn hard as possible to try and catch up with Bayonetta (i.e. really Eastern). I don't how a Western touch could improve a hack n slash, since Japanese devs are way ahead of Western ones in that genre.

Hmmm, RE6 "to come soon" and DMC5 with a "western touch", sounds like Capcom is needing it's stablished IPs to rescue them after all the recent screw ups with Lost Planet 2, Dark Void and the Bionic Commando revival.

Also i want this news to mean what Androu1 said, but i fear it will be what tirkaro suggested.

MAKE IT LIKE BAYONETTA WHICH WAS WHAT DMC3 WAS.

It's the best one in the series, DMC4 was way too slow compared to Bayonetta and DMC3. Bayonetta did good because of it. Plus, Dante as a secondary character? You wonder why it didn't do good....

"Rofl weeabo's crying because their series isn't staying true to it's glorious nippon roots."

Ugh; way to act completely ignorant...

The two game markets (the Japanese and the Western) are completely different. I, and many others, actually like the fact we can buy a different style of game; one that's usually less conventional and more "over-the-top" than your typical Western game. If the game attempts to copy series like God of War or Heavenly Sword (you know, those games that copied the DMC style of gameplay in the first place) then it looses its identity and becomes just another generic action game. Apparently if you like a different style of game to others you're a "Weaboo" and "love" Japan and everything in it...needless to say in saying that you've made yourself look like a tool with a lack of video-game knowledge, for not understanding why people like this style of game - nice job.

I do agree with other commentators though; Bayonetta was a great game - one of my top 10 ever to be honest; everything about it was so over-the-top and fun that I actually replayed the game straight after finishing it the first time. DMC4 on the other hand I gave up on the final boss. The games does nothing right compared to Bayonetta. If anything the DMC team should start looking at what made the old games so great and carving a following again through that method rather than creating generic hack and slash 101.

If I had to guess the "Western Touch", it would be a touch of RPG elements.
