Remember when the Internet exploded over the announcement that Capcom was going to do the unthinkable, and share the Devil May Cry 4 love with Xbox 360 fans? Since then, we've witnessed more than a few screenshots and videos of the game in action -- and each has been more pleasing that the next.
Unfortunately as a result of the multi-platform announcement, DMC4 (like other games in this predicament) has found itself in the virtual tug-of-war match that countless games before it have endured, as a result of the advent of side-by-side comparison videos posted on the Internet.
With games looking remarkably good on both consoles these days, you have to ask yourself if it even matters which game has the slight graphical edge. It's understandable that you want to get the most "bang for your buck," but the comparisons are getting way out of hand. Possible framerate and playability issues aside, one has to ponder if it's simply a waste of time to go out in left field over minute differences between the same game on an Xbox 360 and a PS3.
Chances are, you'll equally enjoy whatever version you choose. It might come down to controller preferences, and whether you prefer Xbox Live's features vs. what the PlayStation Network has to offer. Better yet, it may be even simpler than that. What console(s) do you own? Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young might have said it best: "Love the One You're With." Now unpause that quick panty-shot you've been transfixed on, watch the whole clip again, and tell me that any one version seems superior enough to even consider commenting about. Devil May Cry fans --this game is sooo going to rock on both platforms.
[Update: Well, it looks like Capcom agrees that the two versions are identical.]
Now i'm not a fanboy by anymeans, I enjoy gaming.
I saw this video yesterday, and I noticed when the first fight scene kicks in, the sword swipes, and somethings looked "sharper" while on the Ps3 it seemed softer.
I don't know how to explain it.
B-b-b-butt, what are we going to argue about if not the extremely miniscule difference in textures when pausing the compressed video at certain points?!?!?
What about the spoken rule of "two consoles enter, one console leaves"??
I know which one I'm with... ALL Multiplatform choices are PS3 ones for me. Well I only own a PS3... Controller, Blu-Ray Disc Capacity, & I like the EXCLUSV's much moar!
achievements anyone? that makes it a simple choice if I had both consoles. I couldnt see the difference between the 2 here, AND I have never played DMC.
at some points the PS3 version looks like it has gone through Microsoft Paint Jpeg compression. IE the part where the chick flys in and the background sky on the ps3 version looks blurry and the 360 doesnt
but anyways, this is the first PS3 multiplat that doesn't look like it has washed out colors.
You can never trust gametrailers videos. If you don't have the settings right on the ps3 it will look "washed out" and they NEVER have the settings right. RGB full FTW.
I've heard the ps3 version looks a little better in motion, I think it was on the 1up show. But if you only have the 360 this should be good on either platform since capcom already has a good 360 engine.
I'm going with the ps3 version since I like the DS3 better than the 360 pad, I hate achievements, and my 360's now basically a rockband player.
Honestly, why does anyone bother with these videos? They're streaming internet videos....they're NEVER going to look as good as the console does on an actual TV, regardless of system. Remember that when you're talking about "jpeg artifacting, washed out colors, blurry" stuff from the video.
Just enjoy the game, stop fighting about consoles....they're ALL awesome.
The reason for the difference in contrast (or looking washed out) is because of the respective shaders used by the consoles. The PS3 and 360 just have inherently different levels of contrast in the way they render things and, I imagine, for multi-platform games they don't tweak the game engine to make one look the same as the other. The PS3 does great soft lighting as the 360 does hard, so far as I can tell, those are the respective strengths.
I prefer the softer lighting the PS3 usually has, but there are several times when I wonder why they didn't give it a little more contrast. Man, it's harsh battle between "looks great" and "looks great".
they basically look the same... little things aside it'll be great for either platform, though I'll be getting 360 version as I am not made out of moneyZ and do not own a PS3 :(
@Spilt_Milk
According to 1up, the PS3 version has faster load times due to the hard disk install, perhaps even to the point of nonexistence, but the initial install (at least for the demo version) is epic in length.
I'm confident that, as it is working very well now, Capcom will simply avoid hosing everything up.
I'm torn. I'm sort of an achievement whore if they are done properly, so it could go either way. But I would like to start playing something else besides Uncharted and the Burnout demo on my PS3...
When I posted this yesterday, I posted it for one reason. To make fanboys shut up but if you read the 70 something comments you notice the fanboys do care that the game on the 360 has .1 percent more frames (joke I didn't notice a difference).
About the achievements, there are actually awards in all the games, some we just don't know about. Even in resistance there are rewards that I noticed mentioned at the bottom of the screen when I did certain things. When home comes out, I think we'll all be surprised at all the Trophies we'll have.
I didn't really see that much difference between them. I agree with some of the posters here that said the ps3 handles softer lighting better while the 360 seems to handle contrast better. But really is it that much different between the 2? The both look really good if you ask me.
I'm still undecided about the game, I only played the first one for ps2, it was a blast, but non after. The fight with the fire demon looks sweet as hell though. If a lot of the boss battles are like that I'll definatly have to reconsider. Maybe when the demo hits I'll get a better idea.
