Developer of Odin Sphere working on 2D ninja game for the Wii photo

I don’t know about you, but, honestly, I’m already sold. Amazing developer? Check. 2D? Double check. On the Wii? AMAZING! Ninjas? *head explodes*

Vanillaware, a company that is to sprite-based graphics as Pixar is to computer animation, has announced some early details on a brand new 2D side-scrolling action game for the Wii.

Tentatively titled Oboro Muramasa Youtouden (loose translation: Chad is so Happy), the game takes place in feudal Japan as players fight samurai warriors and celestial Gods at a variety of different locales (ancient temples, grasslands, cities, etc.). In addition, the game will feature two playable characters: Momohime, a young girl who wields a katana, and Kisuke, a ninja boy with a case of amnesia.

Check out the gallery below for some gorgeous Famitsu scans and see why I am drooling all over my desk.

Please come to America, beautiful videogame. Pretty please?

They better keep the literal translation for the release stateside. (Which must happen, I've been impressed with Vanillaware's recent works so far)

Vanillaware is WIN. Though part of me (okay, most of me) longs to see their work on an HD-capable console as well. My soul yearns for painterly nuance! NUANCE, I SAY!

if this does come over here, this will be the FIRST game i'm jealous of on the Wii. i guess it had to happen eventually. still not enough to buy a Wii for however.

I posted this this morning as well.

Great to see it make the front page, and I am sure as punch that it will make it to the states. Odin Sphere sold well from what I know. I had trouble finding it, the first three Gamestops I went to were sold out on the first day. That's usually a good sign.

Supremely awesome! That's the kind of stuff that would make me buy a Wii. And yeah, hopefully they'll get that frame-rate problem fixed.

the last time i was this impressed with how a game looked was back when i seen the screen shots of the sequel to Secret of Mana that we never got (and that should be put of the VC just like Super mario RPG that we in the UK never got)

Now this looks awesome. I wasn't too crazy about Odin Sphere but this looks like something I'd love to see come here to the states. I'm a real sucker for feudal Japan (and Chinese) period fantasy games.

I couldn't finish Odin Sphere because of the absurd framerate issues. I really wanted to finish the game but trying to kill a boss at 2 FPS is just down right ridiculous. Hopefully this new game will not be plagued by such issues, its really the biggest problem with the games they release.

Lol. This is great news, I did hear a few months ago that Vanillaware had something in the pipe for Wii. Judging by Odin Sphere's impact, this new game is one to look out for.

The funny thing about all this, is that games by Atlus, Vanillaware, Nippon Ichi etc have me more excited than Square's efforts. If you don't have a Wii here's another good reason to buy one.

Agree with Cowboy, especially after that FF12 bullshit: "Ok, I positioned you in the proximity of enemies, you do your thing and I'll go get a snack"...

Do want! Odin Sphere seriously had my jaw on the floor for half the experience. Can't wait to see more on this

Don't want to get too deep, but, y'know when renaissance artists discovered mathematically accurate perspective which they introduced into their work, they also discovered that they lost a lot of experssionist freedom which the earlier 2D work had, in the end they found a happy medium.

My point is that 3D graphics have destroyed a lot of the fun and style in game presentation, games like this really confirms that for me. When I think of 3D games, I think of slower movement which is too smooth and lots of dead space in the 3D game world, 2D is the excat opposite with fast, sharp movement and the screen space full of enemies.

God, I'm so glad I was able to get a tip in that was finally relevant, but yeah, this game looks so effing sweet.

I loved Odin Sphere, but the game was hard, and the whole stopping every 2 seconds to eat food was irritating.

This game looks win.

Oh, here's my original post:here

Hopefully it will be better than Odin Sphere. I couldn't complete that game. I kept killing things as the first character over and over and over again and still no new characters. Her storyline just goes on forever. I just got fed up and haven't played it since. It's a beautiful game but it just drags oooon so much.
