In the same way that Guitar Hero and Rock Band can help gamers discover new artists and gain a new passion for music, one developer believes that DJ Hero actually increased sales of real-life DJ equipment. Freestyle Games believes that clever marketing in some stores has led to more decks being sold.
"I can't confirm it, but someone's told me the same thing about DJ equipment -- that they've seen sales in The States at Best Buy and Wal-Mart increase," says Freestyle creative director Jamie Jackson. "They had a strategy where the music games were situated near their music area. I thought it was quite a cool way of doing things, but I think it works differently for each market. One thing that I've learnt is that the American market is vastly different to the UK and European market,"
If you're a fan of that DJ stuff, then this is good news. You kids and your crazy non-music.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Real Talk 2010 though, It seems that every time i walk into Best Buy, I first see the real DJ equipment, walk a couple of steps, and there's DJ Hero.
It's not surprising news, I suppose, but it is pretty interesting nonetheless. Last night I was listening to an old episode of Podtoid where Linde was talking about how great DJ Hero was and now this...looks like I'm not going to be able to avoid buying it for much longer!
Love the header. That was a classic video.
TRUE FACT.
Though I notice neither seems to sell Technics 1200s, so I guess people are buying SHITTY DJ equipment. Alright then.
As a DJ myself I wholeheartedly add +1 to that.
Or I was joking.
Jesus, defensive much?
Sterling!
also, one wonders if dj hero 2 will let people hook up actual turntables to the game.
Soundscan's number is inaccurate, as almost all vinyl sold for DJ use is sold through retailers that don't report to them.
If they did, I guarantee you that they'd find vinyl sales have dropped substantially.
