Not until you were practically next to them. That orange glow was obnoxious as hell. I don't need the game to point out every damn option I have at my disposal. The greatest fun is finding that stuff by accident.
Kudos to the devs as it was something I really hated as well. The fact that THAT was the biggest complaint by far shows that most people are pretty damn happy with what they're seeing. Most certainly looking forward to this game.
The problem with highlighting was the elimination of discovery in the multi-path gameplay. Sure, the multiple paths were there either way, but it was the difference between feeling a sense of accomplishment for uncovering them, versus having them lit up with a neon sign proclaiming "alternate path over here!"
That the devs listened to the community is great news, and reinstills my faith that this game will rock.
oh well, at least they made an option for it.
will still buy this ^___^
Also, this change has important ramifications in terms of the gameplay. Exploration was a key part of the first two games for me. Forced highlighting would ruin that experience by taking away the sense of discovery. I mean imagine if the next Zelda (another game where exploration is important) had a quest arrow showing you where to go, how to collect heart pieces ect... It would be awfully boring.
So kudos to the developers for doing this and listening to their community.
Cool. Choices are good. Especially if it's between "more retro" and "more fun" or "more challenging"
Do those augmentations also have psychic abilities that automatically knows every single thing that Jensen needs to use and where all the useful items are hidden?
I agree the backlash was somewhat overblown (though justified in requesting an option setting), but there's not a lot of the "realism" explanation to defend here.
For example, I found two ladders as i was traveling to an front door entrance, I have no clue where it leads, but I detour and went up it, went to the other side of the map and was excited that I found stuff to do. This highlighting of interact-able items and objects actually made me want to explore all the little off the path areas. Because it lets me know that I can go there and explore.
I found a couple vents by accident as I was moving some boxes that I needed for a jump, and i wouldn't have known it was there unless it was highlighted for me. Otherwise I would have totally missed it.
I have explored and reloaded I don't know how many times In a single area because of all these hidden areas. ( Love the breaking wall aug, totally made me go over all the areas again. ) Was it hand holding to me personally, i didn't think so, I enjoy it , it made my experience that much more better, and It added to my realism of the game world. Different people have different opinions, but it should be opinions based on real game play.
