The boss battles were somewhat annoying for my stealth oriented character. But knowing there were boss battles, the federation unanimously elected President Shotty to the position of Boss Killer Supreme and provided generous amounts of ammo. Things worked out.
Anyone playing a "stealth" game SHOULD have prepared themselves with escape methods and a few combat options just in case. The first and third bosses in the game were stealth-able and the last boss could be hacked. I honestly don't see the big issue.
Now on topic; glad to hear the news, also what kind of boss is that if you can take em down with a non lethal take down, it's just one click away, lol, but nonetheless, I'm glad they now give you a choice of how to deal with them.
People forget that there are workable options that bring a little versatality to the table.
This.
Not to mention the boss fight areas were filled with weapons just in case, and with clever use of mine templates and the environment you barely needed to be able to aim your guns, even on the hardest setting.
Yeah, I felt underpowered for the first boss, having mostly gone for hacking upgrades, but after a couple tries, it was easy to use the environment to my advantage. Beat him entirely by throwing grenades and canisters in the room at him.
Then I got the Typhoon. The rest of the bosses died in about 10 seconds with 2-3 keypresses.
Done here, trading for Arkham City
Because of the frustrating boss battles I quickly loaded up an earlier save and spent 3 pts on an upgraded Typhoon.
That + 2 energy bars = EVERYTHING DIES.
I thought running and gunning was more difficult at the hardest levels because they're stronger and you're weaker. The problem I had with the boss battles wasn't that they were difficult but rather there were no stealthy options in battling them. If they made stealthing difficult but feasible (more hiding nooks, basically) and the ability to takedown upon stun, I'd have been happy. However, three arenas where you're more or less open with no room to breathe is impossible for stealth hackers with no combat augs allocated. I had to redo a couple levels to beat the second boss, and while I enjoyed it, I would've preferred rediscovering those levels on a second playthrough instead of my first.
For stealthy options in boss battles, throw a few concussion grenades. First boss, that was all I had, so I tossed one, and ducked around a column at the far corner from him. He spent the following two minutes slowly advancing around the columns, chucking grenades, without a clue where I was. He found out after I poked my head out and fired a rocket at him. Granted, they're not going to just suddenly decide to stop looking for you, because their whole purpose and intention is to kill you, they're supposed to be the strong arm that eliminates threats on the behalf of the organization they're working for. Against them, the best you can accomplish, stealth-wise, is probably misdirection which allows you to get the drop on them.
Seriously, everything has a benefit of use, they really went the full hilt on giving flexibility with encounters. Because I figured that I could stun anyone and confuse them, I never even bothered with putting any points into the combat stuff, just all into hacking and stealth. This is one of the few games that I've played that truly rewards a bit of creative thinking, especially when having to think fast on your feet.
• On the hardest difficulty.
• A completely Stealth-focused run.
• Completely stealth-focused augs.
• I had a shotgun just for bosses.
I had ZERO problems with the boss fights. Have people absolutely forgotten how to play videogames? Is it because Human Revolution is a throwback to a time in games where you had to actually THINK instead of run-and-gunning around like a hapless moron? Never once did I have an issue taking down a boss after I learned how the fight worked. Often times I beat a boss within two tries.
WHY IS THIS AN ISSUE, AGAIN!? Oh right, idiot Call of Duty mouth-breathers who just want to point a gun a things and have them fall over in terror at the sight of you.
I enjoyed every bit of the game and I had no problem defeating the bosses, which is why Deus Ex: Human Revolution is my candidate for Game of the Year.
The first game's boss battles sucked even harder, how fair is it for Grunther to light me up and kill me a second after conversation ends. In fact, I didn't even let both Gunther and Walter Simmons talk to me, preemptive killing works better.
hmmm reminds me of The End in Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater!!!!!!
you can kill him from afar without seeing you, you can defeat him with only tranquilizers or you can sit back and don't play the game for 3 days and he'll die of old age.
i wish more games would put something like this :P
that being said, i did have problems with the boss fights(played this on Give me Deus Ex) though i always keep a magnum or shotgun just in case with moments like this.
cannot wait for the DLC. really love the game and definitely GOTY for me.
