Deus Ex: Human Revolution bound for Mac this winter photo

Eidos Montreal is partnering with Feral Interactive to put out a Mac version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. As far as relevant details go, about all that's public so far is the "winter 2011/12" release target.

If Feral doesn't immediately sound familiar, know that this studio has worked on a few notable Mac releases in the past, like Borderlands, BioShock, Rome: Total War, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary. I thought that Nixxes Software did an admirable job with the PC version of Human Revolution, so here's hoping Mac players get the same level of care.

Bioshock was a piss-poor port. Also, if it's not getting Steam-Play, I don't give a damn.

Agree 100%. No Steam, no buy. I'll stick to the console version.

surprised they're bothering really. i certainly don't underestimate the viability of mac as a gaming platform, but at the prices apple currently charge for a mac pro capable of gaming i don't see how this is viable at all.

in case any mac fans take issue with my feelings, a brief glance at the UK mac store shows the default mac pro coming in at £2,041. what do you get for this princely sum?

last generation CPU on an EOL socket. (2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor)

small amount of crappy RAM in an obsolete, awkward configuration. (3GB (three 1GB) memory)

last generation mid range GPU, which is soon to be 2 generations old. you could add a second one, but apple want £203 for it, which is approximately 3 times what it sels for at retail, that is if you can even find anyone still selling such an outdated product. (ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5)

why anyone bothers is beyond me.

Mac's are perfectly capable of playing just about anything (the new 27inch iMac's can at least). So everyone questioning the Mac's gaming quality hasn't played around with a 2011 iMac.

Nothing is wrong with the hardware - it's just that no one outside of Valve really wants to commit to developing for OSX at this stage.

@king jorden: Which those costs what exactly that could even play Does Ex? PC devs list their system requirements HIGHER for Macs then Windows. Good grief I wish people would realize Mac's are over glorified pc's that cost you at least a grand more than what you could have paid for a equivalent powerful Windows system. Apple customers = people with more money than brains usually.

Now if Google would get off its ass and give us an Android OS, that would be fucking awesome.

And how much does that cost? There's no denying that a good mac is waaaay more expensive than a good PC.

@Everyone

I, personally, enjoy OSX much more than Windows. Though I own a PC and Mac, I prefer the Mac for everyday use.

I understand what you guys are saying though, this iMac cost me about $1799. I am satisfied with it, even at that price. But Apple is nuts. They make their products shiny, and expect the price to be "fair" at under $2000. But at least they are backing it up with good hardware now.

@King Jorden: At least you acknowledge they are over priced. This is my main issue with not just Mac, but Apple as a company in general.

you're right to say that imac is capable of gaming, nobody can fault that, but in 6 months it's going to be feeling a little slower. in a year it's going to be obsolete, and the only thing you'll be able to do is buy another one.

what you've got in there is a mobile/laptop GPU. it's what allows it to fit into a small space, but it's also what prevents it from being upgraded when it inevitably falls behind the times.
