Apparently, several people using the Internet believe that the next iteration in the Deus Ex franchise is destined to be PC-exclusive. The rumors are being fueled by a recent and lone mention of PC-exclusivity in a Bit-Tech article, which sources a Shacknews story spun from an Edge interview with Eidos Montreal project lead Jean-Fancious Dugas in which the man says he's not quite sure what platforms Deus Ex 3 may hit. How that got to exclusivity is beyond me, but hold the bus: Developer Eidos appears to be brushing off the rumor as such -- in a vague way, of course.
In a recent official message board post about the game’s exclusivity, Eidos community manager Rene said, “Only the PC version has been announced so far.” He then listed PC-specific magazine coverage that the game has had before exclaiming, “I dunno where that Web site is getting its info from!”
The PSP and DS versions of Deus Ex 3 are slated to hit retail in February 2010. Both will star Mickey Mouse. Also, dragons.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Csll me a dreamer, but I still have high hopes for this game, regardless of the exclusivity.
Tis news.
Ace artwork in the title there.
Agreed. I sent this in to the tips addy with the comment that it was probably not true. I don't like exclusives anyway, despite me being only a PC gamer. My main hope is that, as it is a PC game first, like Dragon Age or Left 4 Dead, and then ported to consoles... that would be in-line with their PC focus in media articles and with the heritage of the series in question.
Now would be a good time I guess.
Well, after Uncharted... and after Uncharted 2 Among Thieves... and after Dead Space... and after Demon Soul, etc, etc...
In other words, the PC platform hardly has a monopoly on the things that made Deus Ex the game that it was.
As in "I dunno where they're getting this from" could be sarcasm?
Dear god, please.
How is this news related to Csll of Duty MW2?
It couldn't be much worse than DE2. Now, the question is ... will it be good as the original?
That's actually a good point, reading his comment in context on the forum it does not read as a denial as much as a playful confirmation maybe.
Wow, now I am really confused.
I still can't imagine it being a PC exclusive.
These games had Hit Points replacing headshots. So no, "Keyboard and Mouse" won't cut it. There was very little difference between the original PC game and its PS2 port in terms of content. Played both.
Its there some invisible, mystical layer of complexity that comes with a PC version or is it just a "it'll be better because I built this PC" thing? I mean, this isn't an RTS we're talking here.
Games designed for PC are indeed more complex, not just because of the greater number of keys and shortcuts, but also because of the user base being catered to. I don't mean that offensively, it is just a fact. Every longstanding PC game series that has moved to the consoles has been dumbed down.
And yes, I have heard the original Deus Ex was ported over as-is, complexity and all... good thing, but rare, and more importantly extremely rare when developed for both from the start.
That said, I am not asking for PC exclusivity, just PC being the primary platform. This means it will take advantage of the added features and power of the PC while still ported to console later for all to enjoy.
@wanderingpixel:
You shouldn't give out to people over their grammar if you can't even spell the word 'grammar'.
That said, I've played a bit of Deus Ex and an Invisible War, and I enjoyed what I played. If anything--and I can't believe I'm saying this--I think PC should definitely be the leading platform for this title. Not out of complexity or because of heritage, but because if the game ships broken (like The Witcher, of which I'm a die-hard fan), then at least the game will be patched in a timely manner.
Hopefully.
