Earlier this week, Major Nelson hinted at the possibility of select Xbox 360 owners participating in a beta for the New Xbox Experience, the console's upcoming major GUI overhaul. Today, Microsoft has made good on the promise, offering the first details on how to get in before the update launches on November 19.

Simply head over to the "Xbox 360 Fall 2008 Preview Program" sign up page where you'll be asked a few questions about your Internet connection, your location, and more (nothing too personal, we hope). Microsoft will then consider you participation based on what they're looking for, but will be accepting "a few thousand participants," so your chances are pretty good.

It's open to both Gold and Silver members, so give it a shot. You've got nothing to lose, and the New Xbox Experience is fancy. Not that I'd know or anything ...

I filled it out on the assumption you can switch back if it's buggy. Maybe I'm just naive.

When I went to signup it said,

"You are already in the participation process for this program."

So I guess I'm set?

What bullshit! I sign up, confirm my email, and begin registering only to see that I need my xbox serial too. so I go home and try again... "You are already in the participation process for this program."

I'm definitely not. Good job, microsoft. Well done.

Sounds like a great deal, microsoft. Except for the part where my 360 finally RROD after less than a year of stellar service and no signs previous to. Guess i'll have to wait until the update is at our doorsteps to check it out.
