Top ten lists. Everybody likes to dump on them, but everybody secretly loves them. They're controversial, they're interesting, and they're just damn easy to read. Of course, they lack plenty in the originality department, but who cares about that when you're too busy arguing about how Pandemonium should have been put above Fully Loaded?
With that in mind, we decided to start doing the same old top ten lists everybody else does, but with a difference. The difference is that each list will be generated entirely by the Destructoid community. Introducing Destructoid Top Ten, where we pledge to judge the quality of every game in existence according to the arbitrary whims of our readers.
We're going to start off with systems. Each time, we'll post one system for Top Ten nominations. Your job, as our loyal Dtoid reader, is to post your favorite three games for that system. We will then tally the vote, which could take ten years, and post the official Top Ten, as created by you. Then much debate can be had.
Sound good? Good! Problems? Let us know in reply to this post. This is a thing we're doing for the community, so community feedback is required. If you think there is a better way of doing this, tell us!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Still... I guess that's what programs like Excel are for! LOL!
Oh, wait, not yet?
Although I hate to say the phrase, but fanboyism could definitely be a problem. How many games are going to be drowned under the massive amount of votes for games in the Final Fantasy franchise, Chrono Trigger, Mario titles, or other similar titles? Everyone is already aware of how amazing these games are, it's one of the reasons they're still discussed today. How can there be a way to separate those titles from the rest so we can get more interesting lists that might provoke someone to say "I've never played/heard of that, but if so many people enjoy it, I might try it" instead of "NO WAY CHRONOT RIGGER IS THE BEST THAN FINAL FANTASSY".
I don't mean to sound like I'm pissing all over your ideas, I guess I'm just trying to start the conversation on how this can be more original than other top 10 lists, and avoid falling into the same pattern and same predictable games being put in the top 10. Something a bit more thought provoking, something that might actually get people to play the games on the list instead of just a giant circlejerk over the same titles that are already being circlejerked on/around/over/inside of.
This way, the resulting lists would be just as arbitrary and meaningless as any other method, but would probably end up way funnier.
And you italicized titles! Something nobody remembers to do. Look at you.
I'll vote Splatterhouse as THE Turbografix 16 game.
But yeah good idea.
I don't know anything about web-design but it seems to me that a tournament style poll would probably be easier and generate more feedback. For a best games (ever/on Xbox/on PS3/etc) top ten, just let people post nominations as comments in a front page post. Set a cap, then over the next couple of weeks hold polls and start eliminating titles. The remaining ten would be the top ten. It just seems like an easier/more automatic/slicker/still community generated solution.
Thoughts from anyone else?
LISTS ARE FOR HARDCORE MOTHERFUCKERS!
LISTS GET ALLL THE BITCHES!
I'd advise building some sort of database or something, but that'd take way too much effort for something like this. Maybe there is some external site you could have people vote through that would make tallying much easier?
However you end up going about it, best of luck. I will be voting, of course.

its an interesting idea. i think i could get into it.
but how to keep people from complaining or commenting on others favorites instead of just listing the games they like.
and i dont think listing why you think your 3 are the best is necessary for people to do for these top tens. its your favorite we get it. you dont need to write 3 paragraphs explaining it. thats what c-blogs are for.
"Hell, you still can't see the next 50 comments after you comment on a story."
LOL I thought that I'm the only one who has that issue 0:
