     Games Of The Week

For those keeping score at home, I kinda, sorta, somehow missed last week's session of "what have the editors been jamming into their consoles?", and for that I'm very, very sorry. I've been beating myself up about it all week, and at one point I took to downing handfuls of Percocet washed down with rum in a vain effort to end my bleak, meaningless existence. As it turns out, sadly, I'm an immortal. Did you ever see that movie The Highlander? Yeah, same idea, except I can only be killed by bees. So after I managed to stop vomitting up my organs and my non-necrotic bits started knitting themselves back together, I woke up and realized that I really ought to get to work on this week's edition.

In the end, there isn't a joke here. You were all hoping for something entertaining but the best I could come up with was a quip about suicide-by-overdose and a reference to a Christopher Lambert film that maybe a hundred people saw back in the late-80s and even fewer people remember.

God, remember when I used to be good at this kind of thing? Wasn't that awesome? I'm washed up kids. I'm falling apart.

We're reaching the point where the inevitable is walking down a pier and falling into the ocean. You won't see it until it's too late and by then I'll be gone. Don't blame yourselves, you did everything you could. It's an innate destructiveness, and I'm tired of fighting. So very tired.

Here's the list;

Ron Workman:
Everything! Absolutely everything! Well, aside from all the games the wifey stole this week.
On XBLA Ive been playing TMNT, Castlevania SOTN, Geometry Wars, Uno, Alien Homonid, Worms, even fucking Joust.
On BS3 - Nothing because it still sucks. BluRay isnt making good games so who gives a shit.
On the Wii - Wii Sports so I swing my arms around like an idiot. At least my friends play it when they are drunk or stoned.
On regular 360 - GOW, COD2, & Shadowrun Beta (which I cant decide on yet) I can see where Shadowrun has a lot of potential. Its multiplayer levels have speed and strategy. Its a big melting pot of everything thats almost to much. But... I think this could stand out as a real multiplayer battle game that holds up.
I plan on jumping back into PC gaming as soon as I get my new laptop. I miss the old days.
In real life, I have been playing, "Please God let my liver and kidneys make it through this month." As far as I can tell... I am not winning.

Nex:
This week I picked up a brand new LCD HDTV, so I finally bought Dead Rising. The premise of this game is the reason I purchased a 360, and damn if murdering hordes of zombies in a mall while fighting off the encroaching lonliness and desolation isn't the coolest thing ever, I'll punch George Romero in the cunt.

Oh, and I also got to experience the sexcellence of God of War 2 over at Cap'n Niero's Miami pad, and if the PlayStation 2 has to die, it couldn't have a better send-off.

Cybernetic Tiger Z:
You've been playing on a regular 360 Ron?! Wow, does that like mean you have another super awesomer 360 that can give you hand jobs and such? Golly, that's swell.

I just beat God of War 2 five minutes ago (it's 1:24AM!). Alls I have to say about it is "F*CKING GOD DAMN F*CK CLIFF HANGER F*CKING ENDINGS!

Nick Brutal:
I was on the verge of trading in my copy of Elite Beat Agents, but decided to take it on my recent trip up to NYC. On the way, I figured I'd give it one more go, attempting to complete the game on "Cruisin," the games equivalent of "medium" difficulty.

Bad news -- I fought against the final song, "Jumping Jack Flash" for three hours. Pro tip: playing Elite Beat Agents in a moving vehicle is bad news. The good news is that I finally was able to get through the song, unlocking the next difficultly level and thus assuring that there's no way I'm going to be selling this game anytime soon.

Still staying on track with God of War II, slowly but surely working my way through it. Despite things I hear about the ending being terrible, it would have to be video of Kratos having sex with my mother for me to get upset (and even then, depending on the position, I might let it slide).

Other than that, I spent a lot of time playing Unreal 3 at Midway's Gamer Day event in NYC on Thursday, along with some of their other 2007 (or uh, 2008) titles.

Also, cocks.

Niero:
Rocketu Slimuuuuu!!! I'm such a Japanese schoolgirl lately. I have the big three powerful next-gen systems collecting dust before me in comparison of just how much I play my DS. This week it's been Rocket Slime, Hotel Dusk, and I had the special opportunity to have four of the Destructoid editors crash my apartment last weekend for a few hours of God of War 2 before I passed out with a Corona in my hand. Four nights of non-stop partying have taken their toll and ripping wings off Andy the Griffin wasn't enough. I'm spent.

Colette Bennett:
Final Fantasy 3 and a little bit of original Legend of Zelda. I can't stop going back to that damned game.

hushgush:
I'm enjoying Castlevania on XBLA (OMG, the voice acting. Why?) and Rocket Slime for DS. Old skool weekend FTW!

orcist:
Next week, I have to go back to school, so I probably won't be playing much. When I'm not gouging my eyes out, I'll be playing Vagrant Story and Diablo II.

Faith:
I'm still playing Final Fantasy XII. I'm addicted to the damn thing. I'm waiting for Suikoden V in the mail.

Fronz:
Guitar Hero II, God of War II, and wasting away more hours on Ragnarok Online again.

Et tu? What have you guys been playing? And, since I screwed the pooch last week, feel free to toss in anything from then, as well.

I finished a major drawing today so I rewarded myself with some SOTN via ePSXe. Before sleep Puzzle quest, and finishing up Castlevania PoR. Oh, that and the highly addictive Desktop Tower Defense has been unfortunately eating all of my time.

My 360, for the first time ever, got used to collecting some dust this week. SOTN time got eaten by Circle of the Moon time. Elite Beat. Link to the Past (the last good zelda game, oh noes!) GBA. Phoenix Wright. That last case was four hours long, and I played it straight through. Shoot me.

I picked up Clubhouse Games this week, and it's become my new favorite time waster. I've also gotten back into playing Mario Kart DS online, and have had some really good matches lately. Either I've been very lucky, or most of the snakers/quitters have given up on it.

Congrats, Nex...I, too, am now the proud owner of a brand spanking-new LCD HDTV — a 26" Samsung LN-S2641D, to be precise. (I got a great price on it from Best Buy because it’s a 2006 model...and that’s in addition to TRIPLE Reward Zone points, booya!) I’m bringing it back to school with me this evening, where I’ll probably pop in Resistance or the free Blu-ray copy of Talladega Nights that came with my console, just to see how HD content looks on it.

That’ll only be for a few minutes, though, because then I’ll return to the game I’m currently engrossed in: God of War II. Owing to the fact that it’s easily one of the top 5 PS2 games graphics-wise, I’m eager to see how it looks in 480p, and during that, I’ll be downloading movie trailers and such from the PS Store...in the background! Bless you, firmware revision 1.60...it was a long time coming.

Castlevania: SotN on XBLA. I've gone back to Oblivion to finish up the Fighter's Guild quests and prepare for Shivering Isles. Also just picked up MLB 2K7 for 360, although I'm not sure I'll even start playing it until I finish up SotN.

Of as always, sporadic games of Halo 2.

Been a pretty full week of gaming so far. Just got my copy of God of War II. I am currently banging my head against the wall trying to figure out that gate puzzle in the east auditorium area. On my laptop I brought oblivion back out and currently just leveling my character up in the skills. Been playing some phoenix wright, and under the knife on my pretty pretty pink DS.

Found my 500th agility orb in Crackdown last night. Don't forget to check on top of the big globe in the south-east corner of Shai Gen, peoples! I did.

Other than that I picked up God Hand on recommendation from Dtoid and have not been disappointed. Like like Devil May Cry 3 that game is goddamn hard but I love it.

Also been playing Castlevania: SOTN on Live. Best Castlevania ever. Used to play the PS version all the time till this one came out, now its in the collection pile.

A lot of Gears of War and a lot of Vegas.

Also, I bought Cooking Mama for the DS and I both love it and hate it at the same time. I threw my DS across the room in anger, because I couldn't cut a fucking slab of pork in the time limit.

I'm dead serious.

It's been a working weekend for me, so not much time for games. I did start on Okami, though, after finally having finished Dragon Quest 8 with the best ending a week ago, and having watched the final two episodes of the second (and last) season of Carnivalé (GODDAMN F*CKING CLIFFHANGER F*CKING ENDINGS!). Okami seems like a game I could easily get obsessed with. Lots of stuff to do.

I recently bought a PS2 for Guitar Hero, but it came with a bunch of other games. One of those was a Jak and Daxter game, which made me think of Mario 64 with the power cell "quests" in each area. So now I'm playing Mario 64. And debating buying Sonic for Wii.

The SotN voice acting is AMAZING. I'll take over dramatic to flat and monotone any day. "What is a man?!?!" is still my favorite conversational interjection.

I bought the ps3 oblivion, so I am finally getting to experience the game everyone else played last year.

I'd be making progress in it, if I wasn't just too darn absorbed into stealing absolutely everything in the game. I don't care if its a pewter cup with no cash value... must... steal it!

well I stole fuzion frenzy from Ron and played that for less than an hour and pretty much unlocked all the achievements (easiest points I've ever earned) I think the first one was ten times better and I never even bought the full game! Twisted system ftw. I also stole COD3 but I'm still trying to beat cod2 first.

I really NEED to be playing halo 2 since I have a tournament coming up in less than a month in Charlotte, but... Eh...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R....nice FPS with RPG elements and large explorable lvls, gfx a little dated but still rocks. Dungeon Runners...has a shit load of weapons and drops on every kill, gets really repetitive though with some work could be pretty sweet. Im at lvl 26 and getting kinda sick of it...plucking along hoping to see more of Joe Mads works.

I have all this technology in front of me, and what do I use it for? SimCity. I bought SimCity on the VC about a month ago, and just started playing it around Monday. I am absolutely determined to make it to Megaopolis, 'cause I've never done it before. I used to get bored and send in all of the disasters when I was a kid.

I'd just leave it run while I did other more interesting things, like reading or playing games on my PC or something.

I've also been dabbling a bit in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (whoever came up with that name needs a cunt-punch. Seriously), and for what it's worth, it's actually a pretty good game. Now if I could only get the damn thing to perform well on my PC I'd be happy. I'm well within the spec range, but the damn thing keeps swapping to the HD like a hot couple in the 60's. I'll keep fighting with it, 'cause I think it's a worthwhile game. I loved the beta.

That's about it, kids :)

Plus, my only console right now is a Wii (can't wait for Super Paper Mario!)

Emulated PSOne games FTW
