Destructoid's E3 2012 Game of the Show: The Last of Us

Say what you want about this year's E3, but we've seen and played a bunch of great games this week. In fact, we were overwhelmed with all of the offerings, and narrowing down the selection to only one from all of the games in our 17 categories was pretty difficult.

You see, Hawken was amazing, Beyond: Two Souls was beautiful, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is the most fun you'll ever have with a katana-wielding cyborg. Tomb Raider tells a story I've always wanted to hear, Dishonored turns stealth on its head, and Pikmin 3 is like a long-recurring dream finally coming true. But, even with as great as these all are, one stood above them this E3.

Destructoid is proud to award The Last of Us our Game of the Show award for E3 2012.

Show attendees never stopped talking about this game. Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic setting, gritty survival story,  and the relationship between its two main characters, Joel and Ellie, have already made their way into the minds of gamers everywhere. This cross-country trip across a post-pandemic America looks to go far beyond their already excellent Uncharted series in both setting and gameplay, and we can't wait to see more of it.

Congratulations, Naughty Dog.

We're outnumbered, down to our last pair of lives. The clock is ticking, it's as much of a threat to my team's survival as the four armed men bearing down on our position. I don't like our chances, not one bit, but moments like this, they're the reason I play the game.
Just like every other game these days, The Last of Us is getting a Game of the Year edition. However, unlike some other games, Naughty Dog's latest probably deserves one, Sony argues. "With over 250 Game of the Year...

I can't. Okay, okay, there's definitely some extra clarity in the brickwork and people look a bit more yellow than pink.
