Destructoid Rewind:<BR> Our top stories this week from 2007 photo

As Destructoid lurks closer to celebrating its *TWO YEAR* anniversary (this March) I'd like to introduce a new column called Destructoid Rewind: A retrospective of the top stories from  this week in 2007. I find it fascinating to look at the things our community cared about last year, as newcomers to Destructoid might care to take a peek at our thoughtful and sometimes raunchy editorial skeleton closet. In January 2006 there was no Destructoid -- I was too busy watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force or something.

Nerdcore aside (Will CTZ ever live that down?) our flashback top 10 features a frightening homage to Zelda on the CD-i and Sympathy for the Warcraft Addict starring Tyra Banks as the witless village wench -- an interesting inclusing in light of the recent Fox witch hunt against Mass Effect. I'm curious what buzz game can be blamed for the evils of the world next year. Maybe we can get GTA 4 on the Tony Danza show as the leading cause of adolescent sneering and trimmed beards. Here's the top ten from January 28 - February 2, 2007.

Here's the takeaway from this week's list, which have two Mii related posts. I feel like blog posts about Mii character customization and in-game have systematically died down since the launch year. I can only fault Nintendo for not opening up the Mii convention to third party developers to protect their intellectual property, which is on its way to becoming irrelevant. Is your Mii character's involvement in games something that you still care about or was it just a fad on its way out?

I wasn't here at the time, I wish I was.

Anyway, none of the links are working for me.

As for Miis, fuck them. I honestly could care less at this point. They are useless in almost every game I've played lately, so fuck em.

I actually just tried out Smarty Pants last night, a game made by EA, and they've included Miis. I still enjoy using my Mii in games, but I'm not bothered when it's not.

Also, on the point about the Miis I just don't fucking care anymore. Miis can die in a fire as far as I'm concerned.

I think Miis should play a big part in Brawl. I mean, they let us use our Mii faces for save files in Galaxy, and even that made me smile a "bit".

So yeah, seeing them show up randomly (or not randomly, as centerpieces) is something I'd definitely like to see more. Also, MOAR FACIAL FEATURES PLEASE.

I have a horrible feeling this is going to make me feel old, and remember the "good times". I wonder how old (in internet time) these articles are?

Mii's don't seem to be a big deal..it's just cool that they are there some times.

Miis would be a LOT cooler if they opened them up a bit. Let us customize the clothes a bit or add accessories. Maybe a few more hairstyles. If they let 3rd parties use them more freely (and we were able to customize them to a point that didn't look like generic crap), I think we'd care about them a lot more.

As he is now, I wouldn't even want to use my Mii in Smash Bros because he'd look as generic as Mokujin does (except not as funny).

@ Niero: I just read the post about Tyra Banks and whatnot, it was something else. The video is no longer available, but the blog itself was genius. Such quality thinking and writing, it's a shame we don't see you blogging more!

Oh, and answer my fucking email.

God. I remember that post on the DOA movie. I also remember finding a second link to keep the video alive for those that missed the epic lulz. Wasn't that the birth of Shitty Movie Night?

Wow, I actually remember some of those. I didn't realize I've been coming here for so long....I think I found Dtoid around the same time as Kotaku, which was mid 2006. Unfortunately, it took me a little while to finally realize how superior Dtoid is and get an account here.

I love this place and all the awesome people on it. Most of the time I just forget about new websites that I come across and join, but I'm still coming here nearly every day. DTOID FTW!

BTW, Miis = fail. I usually forget they even exist until I see a post about them or turn on my Wii (which doesn't happen too often).

I don't get it, most of those suck? I guess it just shows what articles were linked the most or came up most in Google searches though. Shit I don't think _I_ ever saw that Katamari post.

Dear destructoid,

Please stop using line breaks in your news post titles, it messes with many rss aggregators and is generally a pain in the bum.

Thanks,
No Line Breaks.

At this point, I could care less about Miis, because a) there are more complex character creation systems in some games, and b) any game which prominently features Miis always turns out to be a boring casual game. Nintendo really dropped the ball with that feature.

Links are working cept for one.

http://www.destructoid.com/post.phtml?pk=29492 is 404 for me or goes to the "Ghostbusters 3: Snot Ropes, Pepto Rivers, and Singed Marshmallow" story. Kind of alternates each time I click it.

But http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-s-creepy-wii-are-familii-posters-29492.phtml works.
